Mookeylama
MS and lady luck both fire red exclamation points. i think it's because of an older version of Book of Earache that i have. rather not update it now as last time i updated i lost a bunch items. rather just change their ammo. what are the steps to do that? thanks! viennacalling
Mysterious Stranger's gun is MysteriousStranger44Magnum and Miss Fortune's WeapNVMissFortuneGun. Assuming none of your mods gave them different weapons, go to the weapon section in the Geck and edit each item to change the ammo type. Make sure the mod that does this is placed last in your load list and you should be good to go.
Mookeylama
thank you^! unfortunately it didn't work. i change their ammo to anything other than normal 44 and they show up using only their fists. it was hilarious tho to watch Stranger beat to death a huge shelled Mirelurker, only to be humbled by a lowly molerat (Dozer). he beat to death crabby, then maybe 5 minutes later i shoot at a molerat. it's far away and sunk down into the landscape so i miss, causing MS to show. but instead of a beat down, the rat takes off running. MS chases it until time runs out but can't catch it LOL! so anyone have any ideas on what i can do to make their projectiles stopping showing red "!". my other guns that shoot 44 are fine. viennacalling
For the ammo change, also add some of that ammo type to their inventory. The only other thing I can think of is check their inventory to see if they are using some sort of modded 44 ammo.
Mookeylama
thanks. but i've not added anything to an NPC's inventory before. how do i do that? sorry for all the bother... Edited October 31, 2011 by Mookeylama
BaronofHe11
I used book of Earache in FO3 and it changed the strangers weapons and relied on Xcaliber or some mod with a name close to that. Did you install all mods needed by BOE. There are two things you can do. 1. Install a tool called FMVEdit go to the fallout NV.esm and find the NPC called stranger. Right click on it and pick "Copy as a override into..." You'll be able to copy into any mod but pick the option to put it in a new mod. Close FNVEdit and you will be given the option to save the new mode. Use whatever app you use to activate mods to activate the new mod. Now your done. Your new mod will over ride any changes made by any other mod you have and change the stranger back to the default. Just make sure the mod is last in load order and don't include it with merge plugin. 2. The other thing you can do was already suggested. You basically drag the ammo into the strangers inventory. I would avoid this option because I'm sure you are going to create dirty references that might have to be cleaned. You could use FNVEdit to do the same thing but the method for adding items to npcs is different. Basically you go to items, right click, pick add item, and type or paste in the name of the item. You should be able to figure out the format just by looking at other npcs. Or better yet look at the stranger in FalloNV.esm and copy the format used for his ammo. Mookeylama
Baron i did your 1st option and both MS and MF still shoot red !. i placed both MS and MF in a new mod using "copy as override...". after reading your description again, wouldn't copying them into a mod just copy their bugged versions anyway? BaronofHe11
Since you are copying them from fallout NV.esm which isn't bugged it should have worked. You basically have a mod that is pointing to a model that doesn't exist. By copying the stranger I hoped the model would be redirected to the correct location. hmmm ok maybe what is going on is you have a mod that changes the default ammo instead of replacing it for the strangers, Try doing a copy as override for the ammo itself. Again copy it from fallout NV.esm.
Mookeylama
Baron thank you! i finally got it working. except that it was "projectile" i needed to override, not NPC, weapon or ammo. just overriding 1 projectile for 44 magnum took care of both Strager and Miss. i'll probably update BOE to the latest next playthru. just don't wanna loose stuff like last time. thanks again!
