tem1980
anything above 30 consistent is playable for me. For whatever reason, in FO3 and Oblivion I get 55-60 consistent on ultra, but in NV I max at 31 no matter what, even in loading screens, and it causes some issues. nolgroth
I will probably just set it to High (not Ultra) and run with it. If I have really good framerates, then I start slowly adding the odd bell and whistle.
elderiii
Until it's actually released and reviewed "officially" by reputable gaming hardware websites we just won't know. Of course we can all benchmark it ourselves, but I usually don't believe other people's supposed benchmarking results, unless I know them and trust them of course. ;)
Nebrule
FO3 and Oblivion both had built in frame caps of 60. To exceed you had edit the ".ini" file and turn off the games built in vsync. Afterwards with some tweeking of your gpu settings you could get in the 95-105 range, BUT (and this is a big BUT)... Why? 60fps is fast enough, I maxed out FO3 and Oblivion and was more than happy cruising at 60fps. If Bethesda did it for their previous titles they'll probably do it for Skyrim. My personal opinion, anything beyond what the developer intends and/or "caps" and you're bound to run into problems. In other words "if it ain't broke don't fix it". Dont mean to be rude but with oblivion you just turn off the vsync. idk about fallout3. I didnt have to do anything with the ini. I would say people should just benchmark their hardware with other demanding games. I use crysis 2 and furmark (even more demanding). for furmark if you do your native rez (1920x1080 in my case) and get a score over 1000 (about 17fps) in the basic benchmark you should have no problem what so ever. It is VERY demanding. At first I thought my score sucked, but I checked and found a score from a GTX 580 that was LOWER than mine (with i7 @ 3.5ghz). I was shocked. If anyone uses furmark do take into account that the high marks are all multi card rigs. As for the accuracy of this, I cannot be sure but it seems reliable. Do not use the burn in utility unless you have good cooling because it really stresses the rig. All things aside we dont have the game so we dont know how demanding it is. When people say you can max it they are saying that you SHOULD be able to play it with a reasonable frame rate. I plan on posting a benchmark for my laptop when I get the game (screenshots of recorded reports). and to the OP, as said FRAPs is your friend. elderiii
In Oblivion the console command to show framerate (among other things) was "tdt" --- I prefer to use that over Fraps, unless I'm doing an actual timed benchmarking run. :) I will make some benchmarks with my system once I have the game and I will post them along with ingame settings once I can tear myself away from the world of Skyrim for a few minutes. 8)
