frakle
People use the term 'game designer' far too broadly. If you want to get a job as a scripter/code builder, that is solid advice. If you want to get a job building art assets, then you would follow something closer to what I posted. If you want to be an animator, then you learn to use the animation suites included in Maya or 3dsMax, or Autodesk Motionbuilder. If this is something you are serious about, its important to realize that there is no 'jack-of-all-trades' in modern game development. Pick something you are interested in and learn to do it as well as you can. Pretty much this. I'm personally going for Sound Design and Music Composing. While I won't get to have all the fun of "world-building", and trust me I love some world-building, sound design/music making is still something I love to do. Kind of have to go with one thing and stick with it when it comes to getting into the gaming industry. coding makes the world go round brother
Ghogiel
Or UDK Which is better than Unity 3D but you can't make profit. Yes you can. They have an indy license last time I checked. Epic just take 25% of your profits after $50,000 is made on your game. Edited November 1, 2011 by Ghogiel
