Possible cause for some peoples assets being used without permission

I wasn't trying to call you a noob, at all, Blahblah. Just stating the facts as plainly as I can. I get taken as condescending sometimes, but seriously. Don't sweat it. I ain't even mad, just disappoint that this has never been made clear in any modding tutorial that I'm aware of. It's actually a very similar concept to keeping one's desk clear of junk when you're working on something delicate.

People expect their tools to do a lot of work for them, nowadays. Everyone wants an easy button. But... any old school Nexus guys in here? Do you remember FO3MasterUpdate? Do you remember your mods being torn into pieces from people using that tool and then blaming you when it didn't work anymore? Yeah. Automatic tools are a plague. There is no easy button in life, I don't care what Staples says.

I'm with you Jeoshua!!! I was there! I have been modding since FO3 and will continue even after this Theft fiasco!!!! I'm not a rockstar that has modded Morrowind but FO3 was still a long time ago and I'm still here!!!

Even though I went on STRIKE it doesn't mean I'm not part of this community and that I don't want to help people which is why I was exposed to this issue that I had never thought of.

If I'm understanding this right, would the altered .dds files (other than the ones I expect to be there which I had altered myself) show up in the list when the CK prompts you to create a pack?

Yes but the problem here is say you have 100 + texture getting packed with your mod and out of that 100 + one or two assets from another user get accidentally packed. It's an easy mistake for someone new to make. Scratch that it's an easy mistake for anyone to make.

It's a valid possibility, "accidental" uploading. However, I would suspect that the vast majority of theft is of the "we soon be back, we top mod for you site" variety.

I'll say it again!!!! This isn't about mod theft, Asset theft and the people who are intentionally doing it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's about the innocent people trying to join the community, make mods and have fun and a possibility of making a mistake that could get them called a thief.

This is a public service announcement!

If you isolate everything to its own folder (i.e. for Modern Firearms, keep everything in ..../Weapons/Modern Firearms/), it'll be easy to spot anything amiss. And also, make a separate folder just for your mods. At least, that's the way I keep things organised and without any possibility of spillover.
