GreekIrish
Which hand are you going to use to hold your sword when going sword and sheild? I think left handed makes the most sense because the left mouse button swing the left hand, and we're all used to hitting that left mouse button so much. What are you guys going to pick? Mason69
Sword on left shield/magic/another sword on right.
natelovesyou
Sorry to be a killjoy, but you cannot hold the shield in the right hand. Left hand only.
babis8142
Dymbest info I've read about Skyrim so far. Why shouldn't you be able to hold the shield on the right hand? No reason. Whatsoever.

Whatsoever.Yeah :/ Perhaps it was just an issue of time that they'd need to spend working on the animations for the other hand too. I can't say really. But, also, though Pete Hines "confirmed" that you can only hold a shield with your left hand...it doesn't mean it's totally right. He's been wrong before, like he said sometimes there's so much going on with the game that sometimes he misses things or some things change without him knowing since there's so much to know. InuyashaFE
If that's the way things are gonna go, it's possible that it'll switch the mouse controls so you block with the right click.
Zinro
It's because every character is right-handed, apparently. I wonder why they didn't bother making all of them left-handed, though, since it's customary on a PC that left click = attack and right click = block. It's hardly a noteworthy issue, especially since you can customize keys, but still an odd basic design choice.

So since shields are left-hand only, then the only way to block with a shield would be the left trigger/mouse button. Sorry if that's something that was clear, I just felt that it could be cleared up just in case.

What I meant was that maybe that left-right correlation only applies to dual-wielding, and when you use a sword-and-board, then it'll correlate your right click to the shield, and the left click to the sword. But when you dual-wield it's the opposite.
natelovesyou
Ah! Gotcha, that makes sense, and it would be nice. It's possibility, though I don't see it happening...but I do see a mods happening that make left-handed shield wielding possible and the ability to re-map different button layouts depending on the what the character is currently holding. That would be cool.
