I`m broke but will invest 440€ to skyrim (size of my rent), am I nuts?

Ignore Spryngo, because he has no idea just what these old processors are capable of.

I run a Q6600 on this computer, which is actually almost 5 years old, and it runs most games just fine. And, it exceeds in some areas where my other desktop (with a Core i5) fails.

I didn't say it could run ALL games, though, so keep that in mind if you're going to flame me.

So go ahead and keep your money. So how well Skyrim runs before you spend money on something you probably won't need.

Yep I have been wondering on why does my old CPU still keep running new games well, whether it`s that the games just benefit from the GPU so much more or then the oldie still has some kick on it who knows. Had to upload that video because Spryngo hasn`t been the only one saying that to me on forums. :D Gonna try Skyrim first before thinking about new components.. :)

I don't know about Skyrim since that isn't out yet, however I'm going to use Battlefield 3 as a example.

I'm currently rocking a 2500k equivalent mobile 2760QM with a AMD 6990M( 6870 equivalent with 2 gigs of RAM) , with about a 15% overclock.

On high it's unplayable for me so I have to turn it to medium, becouse I like my minimum FPS to be around 50, and my graphics card is 4 months old (cpu is 2 months old), not 6. Of course, running games "smooth" is a very subjective term. Some people think smooth might be at around 30 FPS which is objectively wrong, becouse 60 FPS is the sweet spot. For Skyrim however, you should indeed wait until it's released and try it out, however I really have doubts about how good you can run the game.

Yeah I have my doubts too because they recommend an quad core, whereas for example Witcher 2 didn`t. I`m prepared to buy those new components if the gameplay is unbearable and cut down my living expenses to near zero for the rest of this month. :pinch:

I`m a bit different gamer tough than most of the people here since I`m comfortable with 30fps, that`s where I draw the line. Might be due to me playing a lot of emulated ps 1 and 2 games back in days with my older pc (they sucked a lot of resources), and always just turning everything on ultra on PC games and then trying to adjust if necessary in order to make it playable which I have been doing since I got my first computer in 1995 or something like that.. :D

I have a QuadCore + a bad GPU (Geforce GT 130 which nearly the same as a 9600GSO) and when i played witcher2 at this options i got perhaps 12fps^^ So i'm afraid of the performance in Skyrim, i think you must not be afraid. Simply try it first on friday before upgrading the system.

Dalter for you it`s easier to upgrade tough, you don`t need to buy a new motherboard (most likely) and you can get a good GPU in a relatively cheap prize. It`s a fact that GPU does way more work into a game than CPU (in most of the games WAAY more, cpu being only the bottleneck), but I can almost smell the end of my good and realiable old C2D closing in amongst Skyrim.. :D

DyingAtheist cool to know I`m not alone with my preferences. I`d go with 30fps+ultra rather than any possible you can come up with fps+good. :) It just feels that something is missing if you play a game knowing it could look better than it does with your settings.
