Hello.

What I did was this: ( Version 1.5.24.0 )

1) Edit: fShadowDistance to 0.0000

fShadowInteriorDistance to 0.0000

fShadowLODStartFade to 0.0000

2) Then I edited the SkyrimPrefs located in My Documents\My Games\Skyrim and in The Game Folder\Skyrim (e.g: X:\Program Files\Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim\Skyrim\SyrimPrefs.ini)

bDrawShadows=0

iShadowMode=0

Hope that helped. I am also adding my SkyrimPrefs.ini set to LOW settings.

May I bumb this thread?

Disabling the shadows gives the solution of all my CTD I've been gotten (Unfortunally after a few restarts of the game the shadows came back and I can't get it out). Afterward, when the shadows is turned on again (despite a fact I was sure they (or it, I mean shadows) were disabled) the game is starting to crush anew. Wihout it all I got more than 3 hrs of playing (including the fact I saved my game every 3mins (it gets me quite nervous to play, assuring myself a crash won't happen). Sorry for my iterances, so when I was playing with shadows the CTD is happened again.

I've tried to do whatever the guys above said (editing a file skyrimPrefs.ini), it helped only once, after the shadows-on the editing doesn't work properly. The values are still constant, nothing is changed.

So is there any solutions of disabling the shadows again? (Tried to null all Shadow values - it caused the breakdown of FPS I got just after the run of the game (It takes a several seconds and FPS it lowing really quick to 2-4 FPS)

Sorry for my bad English, that's not my native language.

Are yo sure you are editing the correct pref.ini file? The one you want is in (username)>MyDocuments>Mygames>Skyrim (or something like that, its a little different if you have XP)

There is another prefs.ini in the Data folder, but making changes to that will not actually change your game.

In skyrim, shadows use CPU rather than GPU. If you have a computer with low mwmory or memory being taken up by other resources, disabling the shadows should help. You could also try freeing up your computer's available memory by clearing your cache, shutting down unnecessary programs, processes and services, running fewer mods (especially those that add a lot of data to the game), and/or changing your paging.

Both a skyrim/data prefs and mygames/skyrim prefs have been edited.

I've got pretty powerful build of hardware, using a list of these items:

Nvidia GTX 550TI + CPU Intel E2200 (2 cores, overclocked to 2900x2) + 4gb of memory + 400w block. The temperatures of hardware are always quite low, I play skyrim without any side programms, disabling them (it) as well.

So there's no reasons to take care of powerless, I merely know the shadows are cause of all CTD I ever got.

Does anyone has more ideas how to turn it off?
