Guys one of your own is threatening to brick consoles

I am a PC Gamer, I am also a console gamer. I love games and do I lean more towards the casual side? Yes. I've been to the nexus over the years as I am a huge PC Skyrim, and Fallout fan. I've stayed on the sidelines with this whole modders upset that console users are getting mods because I own a pretty good PC and use BigPictureMode most of the time.

Being that I can't buy a high end PC for each one of my little guys I was excited mods were coming to the consoles.

This is whats scaring me. It's getting to a point that someone claiming to represent the Nexus with your site's blessing is going to be inserting malicious code to "brick consoles" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbO9zWluhcM

I can't imagine any of the staff here or anywhere else would support this sort of Jihad as the man seems a little unstable as someone else mentioned. Hopefully the Nexus can take action and prevent users threatening to insert malicious code to brick people's consoles and giving them a safe haven. I think this could be a bigger event then Hot Coffee so please stop this if you can.

Yeah, it's pretty disgusting. The thing is most of the people that downloaded the mod wouldn't even know it's stolen. Also, these people do realise that Bethesda might decide that modding is too risky because of this decide to make it difficult and a plain hassle to do in future titles.

This is the problem with mod thieves (and by extension to those that support them). NO LEGIT MOD AUTHOR WILL INTENTIONALLY BRICK YOUR MACHINE...no, not even DD. However, thieves have no ethics and who knows what code some random jerk will put in a stolen mod? Ever hear of viruses and trojans in pirated torrents? THIS is the danger, people.

This is also why it's a really good thing that Bethesda is crosslinking your bethnet account with Steam. I only hope they have the nadgers to actually use the hammer.

I'll admit, I only listened to the first four minutes, so maybe I missed something after, but the four minutes that I listened to basically said that he's not going to do this, but other people could, so be aware and don't just download every mod you see without doing some research. Which is good advice. Admittedly I'm paraphrasing, but still, what I heard doesn't match your thread title nor the content of your post.

Odd, at what point did he claim to represent Nexus? Not watching a 27 minute video for an event I am fairly positive didn't happen.

When did he upload this bricking code to beth?

Where has he *shared* this bricking code?

Or are you bitching that you suddenly realize that your xbox is not as secure as you thought it was? Because, with no offence to DD, if he can figure it out others can as well. Hell, you should be thanking him for exposing this before it gets into the wild. Or I suppose you can bury your head in the sand.

Why would I threaten this.. Is this what one gets for bringing a problem to light? Being accused of actually using it maliciously?

I'm way more evil than your normal villian bro, if I was going to use it, you wouldn't get a warning.

The reminds me of a Janet Jackson CD in the early 2000s. You might wonder, what does that have to do with this conversation? The same talk was going on about people stealing music back than and a Sony Executive famously said,

"The industry will take whatever steps it needs to protect itself and protect its revenue streams... It will not lose that revenue stream, no matter what... Sony is going to take aggressive steps to stop this. We will develop technology that transcends the individual user. We will firewall Napster at source - we will block it at your cable company. We will block it at your phone company. We will block it at your ISP. We will firewall it at your PC... These strategies are being aggressively pursued because there is simply too much at stake."

What happened was Sony installed a rootkit which would become famous that would break your computer for those who legitimately bought the CD.

At this point the Government got involved when countless PC's were effected by this rootkit which caused law suits all over the place. Funny thing hackers started using this same code for other purposes ( http://www.securityfocus.com/brief/34 )

Doing this would be no different then when Sony's PSN Network was shut down by rogue hackers. You're exposing code to the general population people who might unknowingly download a mod that they have no idea is compromised. I could understand if you go after the thief themselves. I see the logic in that but going after the public is only going to cause a huge out cry and go against the agenda you're trying to push. If this was ever released and is true just imagine when the local authorities get involved. Try telling the detectives interviewing you "Well I console users feel like they are privileged and they should of known not to download that mod!"

Just because you're mad at a group of people you don't go poisoning the local well. This is just madness
