Removal of lockpicking minigame

the short of the matter is, I convinced my gf that Oblivion would be a fun game for her to waste time on. I didn't expect her to literally quit the game because "The lock pick game is too twitchy"

Since the lock picking is such a tiny part of the game, I don't see the harm in removing it. Has anyone done this in the past?

She could just press the auto attempt button if she doesn't like the game. But to actually answer the question, yes, people have made alternative methods of picking locks. There are several you can pick from:

You could also just do the ''Nocturnal's Daedric'' quest to get the Skeleton Key.

Great help since she quit during the sewers...

Anyways, thanks for the links to the lockpicking mods. But is there a way I can mod the game myself to just grant a "lock-kick" ability to just plain not have to worry about the minigame?

Several of those mods offer something like that.... Did you read them at all?

There's also the spells that unlock as well. Tell her to forget the sewers loot as they are mostly worthless and just go grab the spells from a mage's guild hall... or you can play the Tower birthsign which has an unlock power.

I personally prefer the mage spell for unlocking chests. No mini-game involved and it is a never fail as long as you cast the correct level or higher spell. You also don't have to worry about finding lockpicks that way :)
