The Above link fixed my issues. Read the description for details. It's a simple .dll file dropped into the skyrim directory. This file evidently is suppose to be a fix for ATI/AMD cpu and video cards.

Every time I opened my map, my monitors would lose signal resulting in a hard reboot. After dropping the .dll file into the directory AND setting compatibility to windows 7, everything worked fine.

I've been looking for a solution to this problem for 2 weeks now....thank god this one worked.

Please respond with your results.

Failsafe

Does the computer says it´s going to sleep or no signal?I´m no expert but I had that problem with my old computer and nobody knew what was it not even on the internet, after I changed my graphic card it stopped, when I upgraded my computer I discovered my PSU was just 300 W and the graphic card where the crash happened needed more -.- I upgraded my computer on a good computer shop and asked if that could be the reason for my old crash and they said they never heard of such crash but could be it since the graphic card didn´t had more energy to get it would just crash.I spent 2 years trying to figure out how to solve that old crash. If that is your problem check how much watz does your PSU handles and see if that´s what your graphic card needs. As I said I´m no expert this is just what happened to me.

So well, Ive been following this thread since it started, and tried everything. I own a PNY NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti with AMD Phenom II X2 555 BE unlocked cores, and I had never had any issues whatsoever with any game as many of you. At first it was just shutdowns and stuttering, and I tried everything, til Skyrim just ended frying my PSU. Then I got in contact with my best friend, who works at Microsoft, and well lets just say he knows his s***, his advice was to upgrade to a more powerful PSU, since the last PSU I had was a 600 Watt one, but it was the one that came integrated with my PC's case, since as he understands it, Skyrim is not a game that relies on extremely powerful graphics like other games, but its a game which functions are complex in a way that they needs both CPU and GPU at full working power, eventho they dont really get to the overheating level (along with a probable bethesda/drivers f*#@up helping this issue to become worse, like unstability due to bad coding). So, even if our graphics card can handle skyrim easily, if our PSU is one with poor efficiency , even if its 600w, it will shutdown. Im upgrading to a 600 w Cooler Master Silent Pro soon, will let you know how that works for me.

Just throwing this out there as a probable cause of most shutdowns, Im not in any way implying this is a solution, but its worth a shot for everyone to check out if your PSU is efficient enough and can handle a full charge on the whole system eventhough youve got good GPU's, which mostly we do. Eventhough this could be a PSU problem, I cant believe Bethesda left this hanging for so long, without maybe not taking guilt, but at least trying to help us PC gamers out. Any info on this would be appreciated. Good luck guys, will be checking thread during holidays.

I have a 550W-PSU (Brand: BeQuiet), now I would say that should be enough power for my rig:

GTX 560Ti (2GB VRAM)

4GB RAM

AMD Athlon II X4 640 @3.0GHz

Win7 64bit

Skyrim can't be running out of VRAM either -> 2GB!!

So why the f*** am I getting these BSODs?!

Don't blame the hardware! It only happens when playing Skyrim! No other game causes hard crashes (at least for me).

A good idea, and a probable issue for some people. However, I have a 700W PSU. :/

Um I said maybe PSU would be the issue for some people's RESTARTS and SHUTDOWNS, never talked about BSOD or Desktop Crashes. Please read comments appropriately before you reply guys. This thread was started regarding complete PC shutdowns and restarts due to skyrim, not BSODs or similar issues, and thats what I was referring to in my post.

A bad PSU could certainly cause all sorts of problems. I can assure you that it wasn't the reason my monitors where shutting off. It wasn't hardware related, It was software related. The reason I know this is because I have solved my problem via the .DLL file I got from my post earlier.

I am able to run 5 Eve online clients at once with no issues at all.
