sry if this has already been posted but I changed the theme for windows 7 basic and i think it helped(lol). 4 hour playing without black screen..after having them every 20 minutes.

can't say yet if the crash really stopped but i think it's worth a try.

c2d 3.0 - 4gb ddr2 - ati 4870 1gb - win 7 32bits

EDIT: nvd.. the 4 hours was just lucky

Perhaps you did not quite understand my post. While I was getting CTDs, and the problem first manifested itself in form of CTDs, I was ALSO getting black screens and BSODs.

Which, incidentally, have not recurred since removing the faulty RAM module. Was able to play for several hours last night without any form of crash.

Oh, I must have misread. Sorry, English is not a first language for me.

Ok, so I reinstalled Skyrim, and for some reason that fixed the game. Not a single ctd or black screen. So I became an arch mage, until lvl 16 (30minutes ago) not a single crash or black screen. Went on a carriage trip and guess what - all of the sudden I cannot load any of my saved games without crash. WHAT TO HELL?! After that the patch is out if it is not fixed I am asking for my money back. To hell with this game. Shame on you Betty.

I'm having a similar problem, but not exactly the same. My screen has only went black maybe two times. Usually it just freezes, sound keeps playing, but I can't exit game or ctrl alt del. If I wait several minutes the computer will shut itself off. I can usually play for a couple hours before it happens. It locks up at random times and places. I have an I7 processor, Windows 7 64bit, 12Gb Ram, 2 9800GT Video cards in SLI mode, water cooled. No reason it shouldn't handle the game.

FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS

Download and install CFF Explorer. http://www.ntcore.com/exsuite.php

Make a backup of your original exe just in case something goes wrong.

Run CFF Explorer.

Click the folder icon or go to File -> Open and browse your PC for TESV.exe.

Click on File Header at the left, find Characteristics at the right, and click the Click here blue button.

Tick App can handle >2GB address space.

Click OK.

Save by clicking the disk icon or going to 'File -> Save.

Overwrite the file when it asks you to.

NOTE: If you use this method, you need to keep the backup of the exe file you changed with CFF Explorer.

When you update your game, you will need to copy the backup exe back to folder and replace the edited exe file.

Go to the folder which has the executable file you changed.

Delete the current *.exe file.

Rename the backup executable back to the original name, now you can safely update/upgrade.

THIS FIXED CTD FOR ME. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO USE 4 GBSs.

THIS FIXED CTD FOR ME. YOU WILL BE ABLE TO USE 4 GBSs.

Thanks for trying to help, but, First of all, the recent patch broke this method. Second, we are not experiencing CTDs, we are experiencing hard system restarts and blue screens.

Please read the opening post:

BEFORE YOU POST, PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS ISN'T A CRASH TO DESKTOP (CTD) ISSUE. Please post your problems and solutions revolving around CTDs in other topics.

Also, we have tried this method to fix the hard restarts and black screens. It did not work most of us. Please make sure you have read the past posts before posting.
