Drakhaoul
Thank you for the info Aethgar, Coyote and Drakkaoul. :) I'm surprised to see that the lower level characters are triggering it as well. As for my testing orc the character hasn't completed or accomplished anything beyond the very first quest. As I keep saying I haven't experienced a freeze on that character even after forced leveling. So I should've asked before: Are there any quests that you've completed or even just acquired that are on *all* of your characters? Any items? Any common denominator would be useful, but if there isn't one then what quests does each character have? Maybe for testing purposes you could start a new character and (without getting/completing any quests besides the beginning) go for a giant roam across skyrim. If it still freezes then we may be experiencing different but similar problems. I followed the main story to at least meeting the Monks on both my characters, so they have at least that many quests in common. As far as items I'm sure I've picked up plenty of the same items on both characters, but since they have different play styles I don't actively use and equip the same spells/gear. To me the crashes seem utterly random, the only pattern I've noticed is that crash rates go down significantly while in a building/cave/dungeon, other than that there don't seem to be any common denominators. Falthos
I found what seems to be a fix for this tedious full system crash when visiting the bethesda forum post mentioned a few pages ago on this thread (the compilation of everything we have tried). I'll post what I found on the thread here to make things easier. Note: I don't think that this will work for Nvidia users, only ATI. -------------------- Download atiumdag.dll from http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ICEDIU66See the link at this forum posthttp://www.overclock...0#post_15656590 Open foldersteam > steamapps > common > skyrim Drag atimgpud.dll into the steam folder. (This is to just get it out of the skyrim folder without losing the file in case this does not work.) Place atiumdag.dll in the skyrim folder (steam > steamapps > common > skyrim) -------------------- This has fixed the full system crash when opening my map as well as the random crashes that we have all suffered dearly. I hope that this helps everyone else. I'll post back if I run into any issues using this "fix". Well, Skyrim still crashed :( I'm also using the TES Skyrim 0.093 Patch 6 (http://enbdev.com/download_en.htm). This could be another factor in fixing the crashes. moorkus
I have two very similar computers in my household, one experiences this issue and the other does not.I've had these black screen crashes / lockups since the intro / tutorial sequence. Usually they occur within 5 - 15 minutes, on a few rare occasions I've been able to play for an hour or two. English isn't my native language but I'll try to be clear. - Differences - Crashing computer (mine):Powercolor 5750HD 1gb graphics card.Windows 7 64 bit8gb ramTwo monitors Computer that runs it just fine (not mine, figures)GeForce GTX 260 cardWindows 7 32 bit4gb ram All other hardware is identical, motherboard, power supply etc.Software differs a bit but they use the same firewall (Comodo) and AV (Microsoft Security Essentials). Things I've tried to no noticeable effect:*Formatting the hard drive and only installing the bare essentials.*Installing Windows XP SP3 on a different partition and installing the bare essentials.*Under-clocking the graphics-card and setting the card fan speed to 100%*Running Memtest (no errors found), removing some ram sticks, switching them around and testing completely different ram from my old computer.*Running temperature monitoring software (no noticeable heat issues)*Updating my bios and various drivers (found out there where 5 new versions of my motherboards bios, updating made no difference, though my bios menu is all sorts of fancy looking now)*Various sound card and graphics card drivers; old, new and beta versions.*Adjusting sound settings*Changing power management settings*Ram usage patch/mod*Re-seating the graphics card*Cleaning out the registry / CCleaner*Cleaning out the computer (quite a bit of dust, so definitively needed doing anyway)*Plugging out the second monitor + removing drivers*Various different graphical settings in the game, windowed mode etc. Running it without starting Steam when that was possible.*A bunch of various minor tweaks, can't remember them all. One time Windows noticed that something had happened when I got the black screen (no monitor signal) lock up, and I got a following problem report upon powering down and restarting the computer (I think it was just after formatting the drive and only having installed the necessities, but I'm not 100% sure): Problem signature: Problem Event Name: BlueScreen OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48 Locale ID: 1053 Additional information about the problem: BCCode: 117 BCP1: FFFFFA80074C5310 BCP2: FFFFF88003E758B8 BCP3: 0000000000000000 BCP4: 0000000000000000 OS Version: 6_1_7601 Service Pack: 1_0 Product: 256_1 Running GPU-Z with log to file activated gives me incredibly strange values for GPU Core Clock (MHZ), Memory Clock, temperature etc when the crash occurs but that's to be expected I suppose. anonskyrimfix
Win XP32AMD64 x2 3800+ (2.0 ghz std, overclocked to 2.4 ghz)2 gb pc3200ATI HD3850AGP (non overclocked)Catalyst 11.11 (non hotfix)TES Skyrim 0.093 Patch 4 These fixed the game to a good enough state for me: 1. I underclocked the memory of my video card, using rivatuner. Probably no more than a 10% underclock.2. Upgraded my power supply to an Antec NeoEco 520c, solid 12v rails. Drivers didn't help, going from older catalyst to newer. The game used to crash right outside of whiterun (after crossing the bridge)but now I can go several hours without random hard reset crashing. Currently level 10, but have gottenazura's star, missions in windhelm college, etc. I've got a 2500k system built up, but haven't decided on the vid card: GTX460 or HD6850. Not sure which to pick in light of these crashing problems.. Hope this helps someone.

I have tried this after coming home from work, and it seems to work for me (Got the problem 100+ hours into the game when opening/using the map). But keep in mind that I did not have time for more extensive testing. Others are reporting problems with this fix (low fps), for some it works. Worth a try in my opinion. voldoman
Alright, I haven't tried this for about a week or so. I just got the latest driver,11.11c, and am going to test it. The broken ass patch is downloading as I type this  If that doesn't work I'm going to try the thing Falthos posted from the Bethesda thread. My expectations are 2 more unnecessary hard resets, but here I go anyway. Also don't forget, keep this thread going over at Bethesda! http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1301174-any-chance-of-a-fix-for-the-hard-pc-crashes-soon/ Edited December 2, 2011 by voldoman

One more time I'm going to try reinstalling it, this time I deleted everything including the my docs folder with the .ini files and saves. (I made backups of course) I will report back.
