Skyrim complete PC crashes

O played awhile in windowed mode and did not crash for a long time, but eventually it happened.

I have a bsod every 10 minutes.

But lately I'm playing in windowed mode and I no have crash (high settings resolution 1024x768)

why I do not crash in window mode?

Tried this and didn't work.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm not getting black screen only while loading a map (in fact I think it never happened doing that).
It's funny how I usually get the black screen while doing something really dull and that doesn't require much video card usage, like just walking around. Never happened during an intense moment, dueling with spells being cast all over the place.

Well I have experienced crashes everywhere - outside , inside a dungeon, right after loading a new area, when opening skill menu to level up, right after fighting a dragon, opening the map. They are not specific activity related.

If they don't fix this s*** for the next 2 patches , game goes in the trash.

O played awhile in windowed mode and did not crash for a long time, but eventually it happened.
I have a bsod every 10 minutes.

But lately I'm playing in windowed mode and I no have crash (high settings resolution 1024x768)

why I do not crash in window mode?

Game crash? never had 1 yet but just a freeze hear and there. after a few little bug fixes V1.1 i have really no issues at all with the game. :whistling:

updating the game, steam, or the computer? i see so many people bs but updating keeps getting more why not just stay at v1.1?? :facepalm:

i mean if we have around 5 topics avg after an update with around 30posts each why download the patch then oh makes it worst of this and that?

I had a problem with the game crashing on opening the map. I thought it had something to do with the update, because it started after that. I disabled mods, then i removed skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini. The game made new ones,

and then the map worked.

So then I knew the problem was with one of those files, the culprit was skyrim.ini.

I had followed tweakguides.com guide, and after a lot of testing (adding of lines to the new clean skyrim.ini) I found out that this line was the reason for the crash:

[screenSplatter]

bBloodSplatterEnabled=0

I used some tweaks from the tweakguides article too. I had crashes when I used bBloodSplatterEnabled=0 , but I also used several others. I was able to get the game to not crash anymore.

I just switched from an NVIDIA card to a Radeon HD 6850, but I don't think now that my crashing had much to do with an AMD/ATI driver or hardware problem.

This didn't work for me at all. Only glitched the flames effect (pretty annoying for fighting dragons) and, instead of a black screen, I got an all-colorful screen. But it crashed the same.
Don't know what else to do, like everyone else here I've tried everything and the crashes haven't changed a bit.
Besides, it kinda seems to be getting more frequent as I progress in the game.
AND it happened to me inside a dungeon a couple of times (so it's not only outside, at least not for me).

Oh, and I'm running Skyrim in ATI Radeon HD 4650.

I found what seems to be a fix for this tedious full system crash when visiting the bethesda forum post mentioned a few pages ago on this thread (the compilation of everything we have tried). I'll post what I found on the thread here to make things easier.

Note: I don't think that this will work for Nvidia users, only ATI.

Open folder
steam > steamapps > common > skyrim

Drag atimgpud.dll into the steam folder. (This is to just get it out of the skyrim folder without losing the file in case this does not work.)

Place atiumdag.dll in the skyrim folder (steam > steamapps > common > skyrim)

This has fixed the full system crash when opening my map as well as the random crashes that we have all suffered dearly. I hope that this helps everyone else. I'll post back if I run into any issues using this "fix".

So far this fix has eliminated the problem for me. In 10+ hours or so of gameplay, i have not had a single black screen, whereas before i was getting a couple per hour. The only drawback is flames in the game now look awful (blocky mess), but i'd rather that than frequent resets of my PC. I have found that the game will crash in certain places too - one quest i couldn't complete due to the back screen bug (even after trying days later), but after trying this fix i have had no problems.

Seems to work for me too. Had no blackscreen since replacing atiumdag.dll with atimgpud.dll and the latest ENB patch. I have several other mods and everything seems fine now. In 10+ hours I suffered just 2 CTD´s since I use this solution..tried everything else before and nothing solved the blackscreen for me..and I got it really often before! I´m using an ATI 6870..so if you also have an ATI card try this solution and don´t forget to put atiumdag.dll in another folder!

This worked for me too. A few people reported some issues about blocky flames...i cant confirm this - had not one ctd, also my enb config running fine...i only have some fps problems, maybe i will decrease some settings...
