MotoSxorpio
For the new users (somewhere around Sept postings): CTD or freeze before main menu load equals missing master dependency.... Be sure to adjust load order: Skyrim.esmUpdate.esmDawnguard.esmHearthfire.esm Also be sure there are no "esp" out of order...example: Skyrim.esmUpdate.esmMyNewAwesomenessPlugin.espDawnguard.esmHearthfire.esm Load order does not adjust itself, adding ANY new plugin to your game requires that you adjust load order for plugin compatibility. You can use Skyrim Launcher, Wrye Bash, NMM, or manually adjust Plugins.txt and loadorder.txt (just make them the same). Use BOSS,NMM or Wrye for BOSS reports, read BOSS report and adjust accordingly.

Kenny2005
Before reading this: BE WARNED. English is not my mothertongue, so forgive my spelling and grammar. And there will be a tl;dr conclusion at the end. Well i have a strange kind of problem... you all might know it, soe of you have expierienced it before or you have read about it. It's the mysterious crash-to-desktop error, that happens when starting the game just before the menu. Well actually this just showed up after turning the games language to japanese... german (my mothertongue) and english worked just fine... but you know i thougth it was connected to some mods, so i deactivated them all, which didn't work, so i uninstalled them (including the DLC's), which didn't work either. Then i searched the great voids of the net for a soluiton. The audio-Issue seems to be the problem so i tried it (problem is, i use the Speedlink Medusa NX 5.1 USB-Headset and i forgotten to update the drivers after installing Windows 8 ) but the needed option: 24 Bit/ 48k Hz is not available, just the 16 Bit counterpart... so i tried that and failed. Then i downloaded and installed the driver and tried it again. Well f*#@it its not working either (and the 24 Bit Solution doesn't work because of the previously mentioned Not-beeing-available-problem) so i reinstalled Skyrim (in japanese, the whole procedure with uninstalling, deleting eventual game files left in the installation folder, clean reinstallation etc...) but it doesn't work... so i'm kinda frustrated because i wanted to play the game in japanese... so is there any way to play (in japanese) without the damn crash-issues? tl;dr: changed language to japanese for interest, game stopped working. No solution works. *edit*Well i found the error... Dawnguard (and maybe heartfire too) seems to crash the game... dunno why... but without them, the game runs just fine Edited December 21, 2012 by Kenny2005
MotoSxorpio
Load order. Missing or delinquent master dependencies are the main cause for CTD after installing mod. Use BOSS, or sort load order manually. NMM and Wrye Bash both have quick view of master file list, so one can compare and sort. Regarding the sound acceleration tweak...I think that has been fixed in updates.

FireF0x
right, not to resurrect a dead thread BUT... Im having the issue above, i've not installed any mods what so ever... Its done this ever since I ran it the first time. ive not actually got the game to load yet. still no luck  I understand i am likely to be missing some sort of master file, but which could it be? I've not got any mods yet... just the normal Skyrim, no DLC etc. Edited June 19, 2014 by FireF0x
