Where can you get a house in the first place? Been looking for one to buy but yet to find one for the exact same reasons as you guys. store items.

If you dont mind to cheat, then you can always add money in the console. player.additem 0000000F 1000 (or any number of gold you want).

If you're having trouble raising the cash (I've found it's very easy to get overencumbered when looting dungeons) but are in desperate need of a place to store your items, you can get the house in Whiterun for 5,000 coins... "player.additem f 5000" and problem solved. Cheating? Maybe, but after the Creation Kit is available there will be tons of free player homes to download, anyway.

I've been wanting to get the house myself, Just to see what it looks like. How ever I haven't gone down the ~ Player.add yet because I don't wanted to use the console for cheating.

As many I am looking at the Creation Kit for an answer because as Lyanheart said there will be hundreds of houses. Both good and bad depending on how much effort people put into the home they make.

Are you sure that the items will decay if not put in a house?

Why not just use a cleared house/save/dungeon? Just walk in and drop the stuff there at the entrance. I've never had anything decay, but then again I've only had the game for a couple of days (been playing it heaps though!).

I CANT GET OVER HOW TOTALLY AWESOME THIS GAME IS! BEST SOLO RPG EVER!!!!!!!!!

PS. To raise money without cheating, you can go to Marrvark (might be spelling it wrong) which is a mountain city in the SW corner of the world map. If you clear out the Dwemer underground area there you will notice there is tons of dwemer scrap metal all over the place. You have to go into the Keep and talk to the mage dude and he will tell you go to kill some spider, and the dwemer area can be found after you pass that spider.

You can pick all the dwemer scrap up after youve cleared all the monsters, and then go down to the smelter on the bottom floor of the city near the mine. It will give you loads of ingots to use for dwarven smithing (money and practice smithing), or you can just sell the ingots themselves.

it seems that the containers beside my bed in the mageguild doesnt respawn (but not sure maybe it takes longer^^), played several ingame days and the items are still there (so i think in an owned house you can also store without problems)

btw, does anybody know if there are other houses to buy instead of that in Whiterun? Till now i haven't found someone in other cities who sells a house.

After I finished the game once, I just use the player.additem f 1000000 for money. It also allows you some leeway early on to train some stuff like smithing/enchanting that you would otherwise have to wait till end game or a whole lot of material grinding to raise.

I can confirm that if you finish the mage school quest line you get a room you can store stuff. And I'm pretty sure the room they initially give you can also be used for storage, but I wasn't brave enough to test it with the only gear I deemed valuable enough to store. The best suggestion until then is to just not pick up every single piece of junk that only sells for a few coins. Sell prices are pretty low in this game if you don't perk or have items boosting it. You are better off just looting gold and leaving all weapons unless they are special or an enchantment that you can disassemble. Anyway I made that choice after being tired of being overburdened. If you loot anything, grab jewelry. Leave the heavy stuff. If you aren't using potions/scrolls then there is no need to loot them. Be selective in what you take.
