elliottj85
Hi folks, been playing thought the game since Friday and loving it but having some major issues with load times when entering new areas, sometimes it's taking at least 2 minutes to load the area! Not a problem with my rig as I'm running with high specs and having no fps issues. Also I never had this problem with fallout 3 or nv. Any idea how to speed up load times? Will I need to get a large address aware mod when it comes out? Any help will be much appreciated, it's destroying the immersion for me as I have to think twice about loading a new area. anandus
If you have an SSD put the game on your SSD, that really speeds stuff up (I've put it on my SSD, loading times are <10 seconds). Otherwise make sure your hard disk is defragmented, that might help.and maybe other people have some good tips too.
elliottj85
No ssd but have tried the defrag with windows and the steam method of defragging the game too, no joy. Can't understand why it is soooooooo slow.
James009
Is your hard drive like 4000 RPM or something? Is it almost full? Skyrim should be loading in seconds on the PC. I usually don't even have time to read the transition screens, lol.
elliottj85
Yeah, I heard most people's loads are really quick, faster than oblivion even. The drive is 5400 rpm, with about 90 gb free. Not sure how to speed it up as its becoming a real pain!

Ridonk
That 5400RPM might be your culprit. As far as spindle drives go, that's fairly slow. I'd recommend upgrading to a 7200+ RPM, or even better: a ssd. I've included links to a few drives that I'm currently running in my PCs and have had zero problems with. Seagate barracuda:http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=281622&CatId=2458 WD Caviar Blue:http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=160426&CatId=2458 That would be the easiest way to speed your load times up :) What are the rest of your specs? There are more factors than just HDD when it comes to loading.
Tropxe
How do you find out the RPM? I can't see it in device manager. It's just that I'm pretty sure my HDD will be slow by modern standards since it's from about 2006 and wasn't particularly expensive and only gets 5.5 in the Windows hardware index, and yet Skrim loads very quickly for me, too fast to read the tips.
