Zalix
i did all the steps given and mine is still grayed out Finally! Didn't work for me either - the skyrimprefs in the main game folder already had it and still nothing. Then I added the string to the one in my games directory, still nothing. Here's what I changed to make it work: Notice that in main directory the bEnableFileSelection=1 is preceded by the [Launcher]string. Well, at first I tried copying both of them into my games directory, to look exactly like the first ini. What made it work is that I only copied bEnableFileSelection=1 to fit below the already existing [Launcher] bShowAllResolutions=1 uLastAspectRatio=1 strings (didn't add anything more). That fixed it - really weird but whatever floats your boat Bethesda. xD That made it for me !!! Thank you !!! Worked for me too! :)
LegendXV
I'd like to mention that I've already added [Launcher] bEnableFileSelection=1 to both the C:// and my games directories. It worked for some time, but after installing horse mod armor (and overwriting files), it became grayed out. Does anyone know about this? Edit: Just saw it's not just the Skyrim data files. It also cannot detect any of my saved games. If it helps, I disc cleanuped, defragged, and used CCleaner yesterday to clean up my computer. AmundNoR
HOY!Now i have read all the 7 pages closely, and done absolutely everything. Still... Heres my problem; the first solutions made Data Files ungreyed. I mean, when i added bEnableFileSelection=1, i could then click the Data Files in launcher. BUT there was nothing in the popup window. Heres a pic: http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/7135/skyrimlauncher.png so... any more suggestions, please? :'D (small edit)Btw, I can't start Skyrim via the normal launcher. If I use SkyrimLauncher and click Play, nothing happens. At all. Though I can launch it with TESV. (But with this only some texture mods work, not races, graphics settings, etc.) now ive read this whole thread here; http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/468198-help-skyrim-data-files-unclickable/page__hl__data+files__st__140 . i cant seem to find anyone else having the same problem as me, if not they just didnæt mention it. Anyway I've tried every single solution both on this thread, on this- http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/468198-help-skyrim-data-files-unclickable/page__hl__data+files__st__140 and this - http://s1.zetaboards.com/bbenlibrary/topic/4751769/1/#new Now... I will try to reinstall the game, and i hope i can recover the damn mods without DLing all of them again. Haha Edited August 17, 2012 by AmundNoR

HahaOK, clean post: I have now installed Skyrim again, and updated all patches, all up to 1.7.7 with Dawnguard. I haven't changed anything in the SkyrimPrefs, and now everything works fine! With mods and all! :DDidn't take long at all to reinstall the mods, as they were safely saved in the Nexus folder.
lordcamo
I'm having the same issue. Someone said to go into SkyrimPrefs.ini and add:[Launcher] bEnableFileSelection=1but mine already has that, and the data files option is still grayed out :(did you add [Launcher] bEnableFileSelection=1 in your install folder or in my games\skyrim folder
