Marriage Mod (Request)

Great idea, but I don't see the baby/pregnancy thing working. Sounds a bit weird...aswell.

But if I remember correctly, didn't Fable have exactly that? Family with kids thing. And as someone else said, didn't Red Dead Redemption also have a similar feature?

Anyway, yeah, the whole 'Marriage' thing in Skyrim feels very very tacked on, basically its a very sparse mechanic with virtually no immersion value. So yeah, I would like to see a mod like this as well.

I could do without the children aspect of marriage. The ones in the game already are too much for me. Hell...one is too much for me...though it makes the immersion seem purer, I'd be content without the entire complicated process. It'd be great element to add to the game for REALISM purposes, but I've dealt with that enough in real life to want to keep it out of any aspect of my personal gaming preferences. I'd really just like some romance and some cute little visuals (do joo'no'wut'aye'meen, mang?)

I think it would be cool to have a quest centered around a baby, requiring materials for a healthy pregnancy, making a crib, food, potions for a healthy mother, etc. Would be neat to make a game primarily about death switch to being about life!

This is an excellent idea! Skynilla marriage is quite...lame, compared to the marriage mods of Oblivion.

There are a few things to consider though:

The Nords of Tamriel are based off of the Vikings of Old. Viking marriages were less about romance and more about profit, convenience/necessity, or forced. Having marriage along those lines would be slightly more immersive. A few examples would be:

Profit:

Marry a merchant

  •
  • allowance (500+ gold)
  • have spouse search for certain items to aid your adventuring (ex: ask that they get Fire Salts or Daedra Hearts)
  • Create a minor trade guild between Holds

Convenience/Necessity:

Marry Ulfric/Eislif

  •
  • allowance (2000+ gold)
  • have spouse send out soldiers/decrees/boutnies to benefit your adventuring
  • create minor faction (ex: order of knights)
  • have multiple followers (ex: guardsmen escort, bodyguards, etc.)
  • entrench spouse's position of power using fame (ex: Dovahkin to be High King/High Queen! Ulfric/Eislif's position assured!)

Forced/Contract Marriage:

Marry a bandit chief, head necromancer, etc.

  •
  • relative immunity to ambushes
  • new mercenary followers
  • cave/temple lair
  • send raids on Holds, towns, etc. for profit

Here are some actual marriage ideas: (assumes that you use a same-race, or similar race, spouse)

Male Dragonborn:

  •
  • Wife has probability of being infertile, say 60/40 chance with pregnancy on the higher side.
  • Warrior can train you in certain disciplines, go adventuring, etc.
  • Mage stays home, but can heal diseases, train you, craft potions/poisons, etc.
  • Thief can go adventuring, steal items off screen for you, etc.
  • Lone adventuring spouses have a 60% chance of returning home

Female Dragonborn

Husband has 30/70 chance of getting you pregnant, pregnancy on low side

Warrior follows and trains

Mage follows, trains, offers services for free

Thief follows, trains, offers free services, can go alone and get some cool stuff

Pregnancy = Scripted Timeskip, Hiring of a Nanny

Child-wise:

  •
  • Child will follow NPC spouse, unless you're doing a child/parent bonding quest
  • Child will play with Hold Children
  • Can have a pet dog, goat, etc.

Getting a child:

Adoption

Pregnancy happens through scripted events

Special Semi-static cradle holds baby. Animations would be cool, but not essential. Interactions with child determine attitude (ex: spoiled, humble, shy, daring, etc.)

  •
  • Wife will leave to (somewhere) for safety and will return 9 months afterwards.
  • Will keep you informed through courier services
  • Will ask for certain items. Items will be delivered through mailboxes at home (specially labelled; boxes will disappear after wife's return)
  • 20% chance of dying in childbirth
  • Child gender has 50/50 odds
  • Child can possibly be sent to boarding school in Cyrodiil
  • Returns every fourth week of month
  • Please consider limitations of game in regards to aging...

Sweet ideas. Would love to see that.

I wish.... If I did, I'd be bringing up all these little things to the department head and would've halted all processes until we solved the problem or I got fired...
