Molda
I have quite big amount of various gems like amethysts, diamonds, rubys etc and i wondered, should i keep them? Are they important in skyrim for anything? For example for some advanced crafting of very good items etc? In some sidequest? As gifts to someone? Because i am lvl 10 and never ever sold one so far i keep every gem in inventory so far, but the money for selling them would really help me.So keep them or sell them? luthienanarion
You can make rings and necklaces out of them with smithing.
Molda
I know that, but are those made up amulets and rings important later on? Is there some important difference in for example necklace with ruby and necklace with ametyst or diamond etc? I think that important is the soulstone and effect you use while enchanting. So am i wrong? And any other use of gems except for smithing?
InuyashaFE
I keep them for enchanting, myself. But my Orc isn't really good enough at enchanting yet. xD
Molda
For enchanting? I thought that when enchanting, you need item, effect and soulstone. Not gems. (Did you mean to keep them for crafting amulets and rings and those then using for enchanting?)

Really useful, tucking the minor enchantments into jewelry and leaving the big ones like 'resist magic' to your armor.

Molda
And what difference make those gems? I mean what is the difference between for example silver necklace and silver ruby necklace? (price is one difference, but otherwise? does it make the effects used in enchanting stronger? I thought that this is what soulstones do. I am confused
