Modding..

So i recently received a promotion at work, meaning that i now work shorter hours and can finally 9work on modding.

But where do i begin? Can someone recommend me a good starting place to begin modifying?

Eventually, i want to make some huge modifications, including but not limited to:

Houses for Beggers:

This Mod will enable the beggers in each city to stay in the PC owned houses, provided that they are invited. This would change their status from 'Beggers' to 'Servants', and will affect the Thieves Guild quest, though they will still have information regarding certain things having to do with the Thieves Guild Questline.

Player-Owned Shoppe

I have always wanted to own my own shop in the Imperial City. What this mod does, is enableds a new General Merchandise store to be created so that the PC can buy and sell everything from one place.

This would enable traders Like Jensine and Claudette to come randomly to trade their goods for yours. Trading goods, for example, MIGHT mean bartering in goods, not money. 500 iron Arrows for 50 Steel Arrows, 10 iron daggers for one steel dagger, 10 weak healing potions for 1 Strong Healing Potion and etc.

depending on the limitations, i might be able to have 'Random Traders' come from other cities to do business with the PC.

The PC will have the option of waiting around for customers, because they will always arrive. But it wouldn't be necessary, as the PC will be given a message when he has a customer, something like 'You get a strong urge to return to your store' and a message box would give you the option to return to your store, or randomly teleport you back to your store in 5 or 10 minutes.

You would also get 'Requests' to search for random objects. It might be a specific type of sword, or shield, a potion, a certain herb, and etc. When you receive the item and sell it, the person/shop owner who comes by to pick it up will pay triple the usual price. But if you go immediately and return with the item in less then 24 game hours, the payout is x5

Landmasses

If possible, my GREATEST ambition would be to expand the world of Cyrodiil, which would make use of the the removed borders. But if you somehow travel to Hammerfell, instead of seeing a blank canvas (which is incredibly temption) You would see a population of Redguards. And if you travel to the Summerset Isle, You would see a population of Altmer.

Of course this will enable new factions, new quests, and possibly, even a new kingdom UNDER Tamriel, under the Niben Bay. This would be heavy duty, as the kingdom would be as big as Cyrodiil.

Are these at all possible? And, if so, how would i start modding?

Thanks!

Tamriel Rebuilt is currently working on Hammerfell.

I have a feeling that the player probably cannot sell items for more than their list price under any circumstances. Don't know for sure, though.

Bounties for certain items and up-trading basic armor and weapons are both quite possible, and should be fairly easy to implement if you keep it simple.

Those are some very interesting ideas and very doable. Your gonna want to start here

and I would recommend that you gather all available Tools and Utilities before you get started.Browse the Nexus for

some of them and google the rest.

I consider all of the following programs a must have for Oblivion modding:

OBSE-Oblivion Script Extender==Making the impossible possible

OBMM-Oblivion Mod Manager===Conflict detection and BSA unpacking

TES4Gecko==============THE Swiss army knife of utilities(clean,convert,compare,split,merge,edit,import,export all ESP and ESM data)

Wrye Bash==============Patching,Master leveled list creation and save game face swapping

OblivionScriptDumper=======Very handy for examining scripts intuitively

Nifscope================Must have transitional tool for getting your NIFs from render to game

3DS Max 8==============3D Rendering(if you happen to have 300-400$ lying around)

Photoshop 7=============Texturing(if you have an additional 600-700$ in your couch cushions)

Otherwise use these free alternatives;

Blender================3D Rendering

Gimp==================Texturing

I have all of the available utilities on the web(downloading addiction)but these are the ones i can't live without.

I hope that gets you going.You will run into problems along the way but take heart there is an entire community here willing to

assist anyone with good ideas.And i'd say you got about 2 to 4 years before TES V comes out and this Forum dwindles a bit so take advantage

of it while you can.

But please consult the Wiki before you come running in here with every little obstacle. Chances are you will find the answer there

Feel free to ask others for their opinion on any subject though as we all need a little advice from time to time in order to make a decision.

GOOD LUCK and HAPPY MODDING
