EphemeralHyde
I am getting skyrim tomorrow, and was wondering if there is an option to use an xbox controller, like in Fallout 3 and New Vegas. The internet cant seem to give me a straight answer. Thanks in advance!
Tropxe
Short answer: Yes, just plug one in or connect through the wireless connector thing. Longer answer: Pretty much every game released on PC and also on consoles over the past few years has had something called XInput. It automatically detects 360 pads and automatically configures the controls. It also changes all in-game references to controls to the appropriate button (e.g. "Press Tab" becomes "Press B" or whatever). Even if you don't have an Xbox 360 controller, you can download an XInput emulator and put it in the same folder as the game's exe, then any pad will be detected as a 360 pad by an XInput-enabled game. XunAmarox
Yes, you can use a 360 controller. The game is a console port and you'll find the game very comfortable to play with a controller. I've played a bit with my 360 controller myself, until I figured out how to use both my left and right mouse buttons for spells/weapons with the keyboard layout. Bansai
If we're talking about original X360 controller, there is an option, it works pretty damn good too (as game is officially supporting it). EphemeralHyde
Great! Yeah, it is the original controller. Thanks for the quick replies.

Tropxe
I'm not sure what you're saying. I'm just saying that games that are on PC and on console always seem to have XInput. And for the record, Bethesda said Skyrim was developed for consoles then ported to PC because it's "easier that way".
Thor.
Frankly i Don't believe its a direct port, just a game with bugs. That Directx 10 folder is a indication its not. Unless its a direct port and the 360 and ps3 are more advanced then i thought lol. Who knew they use dx10?? Its not the only game that supports the 360 controller, fable 3 was like that to, it almost feels like it with all the atmosphere and such. Edited November 14, 2011 by Thor. And simply adding DX10 support to Skyrim doesn't stop it being a port, it's run on a DX9 base and can use DX10 elements. If it really was developed for PC primarily, it wouldn't just have DX10 support, it would have been made for DX11 and then ported down to DX9 for consoles. It's not even my opinion, the lead producer said it was developed for consoles and then ported to PC because doing it the other way around is way more complicated and more problems arise. I'm not saying this to criticise the game at all, I love it. I don't think it being aimed at consoles first and foremost is necessarily a bad thing since console games can't be modded, so they're stuck with what they get. It's fairer to do it this way - to optimise it for them - since we can mod it later, rather than to give them a piece of s*** they can't change (like the console version of Dragon Age: Origins - the port was made at the very end of development by a company Bioware hired to quickly churn it out). And on a totally different note, I just added you on Raptr. :) Edited November 14, 2011 by Tropxe
