So... Interface mods?

I've never tried modding apart from map building etc. But once the construction set is going to be launched I'm definitely going to spend some time on a better UI.

My aim is to bring the look and feel of Morrowind UI, with the character view and slotted items back... along with some enhancements such as categories to make finding different items so much easier.

Having a thumbnailed list of items would also be an improvement, and then allow the 3D inspection on select.

I really miss the Morrowind UI :) Oblivion was okay ... but Morrowind, woohoo! :)

lol what was the point in highlighting "me"? Obviously everything you, me and the rest of the forumers post are more or less based on personal experience a.k.a ME. I could had written it "It works flawlessly" and it would have had exactly the same meaning as "for me it works flawlessly". Do you consider yourself clever by highlighting one word and not writing a single phrase?

It was pointed to op`s "I think we can all agree the skyrim UI sucks" when I said majority, because the way I saw it he was referring to majority first with the phrase I quoted. Maybe you missed that? I`m playing on PC by the way with keyboard and mouse and I`m just wondering what exactly do you guys think there`s wrong? I mean for me it works flawlessly.

But regardless of the link between op`s opening and my "statement" referring to it, I could bet any amount of money you want to on that if we made a poll with simple yes/no about whether people like the UI or not, there would be way more yes than no.

There is a difference between saying 'I think we can all agree' which is an opinion, and an ex cathedra statement like yours ("meanwhile majority of people (like myself) are totally happy") without any qualifers.

Where is your poll, by the way? A bet is not proof.

Ah... so many forums I have seen... yet all are the same... a decade or more has taught the internet forumnites no wisdom, or rather, newer folks keep making the same old statements.

So, my personal opinion, not backed up by poll nor statistical value, is that the interface is "ok" ( I run on PC with keyboard and trackball). I'd prefer to have a backpack and character display, but I can simulate the character display by hitting 3rd person view and then hitting the menu. As for getting to my favorites and all... well... all the important keys are in the right sspot, barring that "Z" for shouting, that's just a pain. My pinky finger does not like to be pressed in that position. Same with using ALT for running, so next time I play agian, I will move them. Other than that, once you get the hang of it the interface is ok. Not brilliant, not perfect, but survivable ok.

What I miss is the zoom option on the keyboard. Scrollwheels are nice, but I use a trackball. No scroll-wheel. But really, as far as I can tell the map doesnt improve much by zooming in so its ok.

Best wishes,

Barry

I think we can all agree the Skyrim UI sucks. Are any big modders planning on doing a UI mod for skyrim?

You can agree to what you want to agree with, meanwhile majority of people (like myself) are totally happy with the UI and are wondering why some people are pissed off about it.

You are in the minority. The only way that poll is positive is if you weigh in controllers/consoles (because the game was only designed with controllers in mind). If you look at the UI from a Keyboard and Mouse standpoint, it's quite bad almost to the point of being unplayable. Luckily, the game is so freaking amazing that 50 hours in and I can only now start to forgive Bethesda...a little bit. I mean not even allowing remaps? Blah. Why couldn't they have adopted a traditional RPG interface with sorting options? I mean, finding your characters statistics even is ridiculously difficult. How much damage do your spells do? What's equipped? What are your current buffs? These things are NOT easily trackable at all in the current system. Look at WoW, DC Universe, Morrowind, basically ANY RPG UI system...They all have similar systems that exceed Skyrim's in pretty much every way possible.

^^^Yoken, that would be amazing. :)

That's pretty much my experience even though the keyboard based scrolling function and mouse clicks can be a bit confusing. (The Level Up interface is especially lousy, I can scroll between the various perks with my mouse, but when I click on the perk I want to select, it simply scrolls away - I have to use the Enter button to allocate perk points to it).

The Favorites... well, I'm not a 'realism freak', but pressing Q to freeze time and switch a lot of equipment, drink potions or even read a book, while the attacker is waiting for you patiently seems to be a bit iffy - the old way of using the numeric keys from 1 to 8 was a tad bit better, but that's just my opinion.

I might also add that the interface looks to me like a precursor to Fallout IV rather than a UI for a fantasy game, so I will welcome a facelift when somebody decides to release one.

I didnt saw the point in writting anything...look we have clearly problems with the ui but there come people like you who tell us it works flawlessly for them and they cant understand what the problem is...you said it yourself I`m just wondering what exactly do you guys think there`s wrong?

We are simply discussing this problem and people who dont have problems with the ui come here and bash the hell out of us..."why are you whining, why there are problems, i dont have any"..etc...if you have no problems its fine im happy for you but we have ...you either accept that fact or just ignore this thread...ye i know marharth said "sucks " wich maybe made you angry but if you are happy with it then just play the game and ignore this thread and similiar ones...we are simply waiting for a solution to this.

I am a member on several forums apart from this one and one thing I can assure you of, 4dvz, is that on all of them, diehard PC gamers who play with mouse and keyboard are screaming the place down in frustration about this UI. I'll be darned if I am going to hook up my 360 controller.

I have my own personal reasons due to my disability affecting my hands, why I found Oblivions UI which was fine once Darnified, as it was at least mouse clicky friendly, and why I find this Skyrim UI the absolute pits. It has a very bad attack of consoleitis, bleargh!!!!!!!!!!!!

For once I agree with you marharth, I will load with laurels the modder who overhauls the Skyrim UI!

I have really struggled with the PC interface. I remapped keys as I always do if allowed in the game, to the numpad area, I use the cursor keys for movement and keys around there for other controls, always done it that way and always worked fine, until now. The trouble is that now some of the game keys dont work at all, or they have been moved and I cant find them, for example I have tried every key and cant command followers. Took me an age to find the key to drop items. With so many keys functioning for different things in different menus I am finding it an exercise in key management and memory and it takes away the immersiveness of the game. I guess I have 3 options, plod along, put the game aside until a mod is written, or restart using the key mapping the game sets up.

Happy to put up with a learning curve to get used to the game, but never had an issue with Oblivion and the two Fallouts, and really cant see why I should have all this agro with what is, let's face it, Oblivion 2. Its a mockey to have the facility to reassign a key but the game menu's dont reflect that, either have the key controls fixed and unchangeable or remap them within the game so the game reflects what key does what.

For me its a game breaker, and while I do want to play the game and generally enjoyed what I have seen so far, I am finding my level of frustration with the user interface is negating the game enjoyment.

Ah yes, the abysmall perks menu, it looks pretty and responds... badly. I get the fallout feeling too, to be honest. I can get by, but have seen my personal stats only once so far, and have no clue where I got to them, or how. Its ok, as I have only begun exploring and not really tweaking or mini-maxing, but there will be a day when Liessa Wyrmbane will be shelved, and I'll open up an Orc Warlock named Az'rak-hul or something ( ah, the irony, my level 75 Dwarven Champ in LOTRO is called Azrakhul, but with a ' and a - it fits an orc in Tamriel) with heavy armor and a 2-hander and at that point I will want to have acces to all and everything, because then the powergaming will start.
