cossayos
The assaultron from the OP was protecting a military barge with a Mr. Gutsy on the road to Croup Manor. I was doing the mission for the railroad where you turn it into a safe house. But they have appeared more frequently in other places. Ah, that's the one. I just used my usual procedure of getting his legs off. There's really no other way to deal with these bastards. As long as they're standing, they're awfully quick and their laser is deadly before you can even mouth stimpack.
CiderMuffin
I'm honestly surprised by the amount of "NOPE" I have when I face an assualtron at high levels. The only actual enemy outside of far harbor that managed to give me a fight on it's own.

If a have been to the region before in another game, and I know there's an assaultron lurking, and I happen to already have artillery, I call in a strike before moving in. Usually that takes care of them. I never would move into assaultron territory with just a handgun. There has to be at least some serious firepower to take care of the legs with two or three shots. JackTrenton
The stealth boy is the hardest part because the field only drops for like a second right before they attack, so you can't really target them in vats unless you catch them off guard. But yeah I'll definitely target the legs in the future.
Zaklex55
I always attack them with a game of hide and seek, usually with me hiding in some area they can't get to or target me in(and I don't have the ignore walls perk) while letting my companion soak up their attacks...then I'll snipe them to death. midtek
I use a sawed off shotgun with an advanced receiver for up close kills on robots. It usually works every time, but even critical hits barely phase this thing. Wait, you use sawed off shotgun to take down Assaultron Dominator? That sounds seriously lacking the efficiency. It has cloaking. It soak more punches. I can't count how many reloading will be needed to saw-kill that thing. More power in arms seems to be the easiest solution here. RattleAndGrind
Truth in advertising dictates that I tell you that I play as a rifleman. I attack from distance and aim for the head with the biggest baddest rifle I can get. That said, here is some of the tricks I use. A "targeting HUD" helps with stealth combatants as it makes them glow a nice cherry red. You can put a targeting HUD on Power Armor Helmets vanilla, or glasses and helmets with mods. When a combatant begins closing, I use a pistol and targeting the right leg seems to work best for me. Since all Fallout combatants are right handed, the left side (arms and legs) are normally armored better So attacking that right leg gives me good results. I know you said you use a sawn-off shotgun and I am assuming that means a double barrel shotgun. Wait until the combatant is bad-breath close and hit them with both barrels. And add banked critical hits to both shots. If you have to reload, forget any hope of victory. Now for some different advice. GET A BIGGER GUN. A fully tricked out Gatling laser might help. Assaulttrons close very quickly. You really need more firepower if you hope to stop one up close. The last piece of advice I have is to consider a longer engagement range. It is always better to kill a combatant at distance than up close. Up close requires good reflexes and a lot of training. Hope this helps. Raycheetah
If you know where the gorramed thing will be coming from, use some of those mines everybody hoards. Just liberally pepper the road with 'em, then give the Dominatrix a love-tap with your favorite rifle to let her know you're there. She comes a-running, loses her legs to your mines (you did plant 'em in depth, right?) and then you can pick her metallic butt off at leisure. =^[.]^=

I sell mines and grenades. Most of my combatants are dead in their patrol area before they even know I am there.
cossayos
People hoard mines? Really? I sell mines and grenades. Most of my combatants are dead in their patrol area before they even know I am there. I don't hoard them either. But I don't sell them. I use them to tunr the accesses to certain settlements into death traps. As for grenades, I do use them. But I don't hoard them either. Edit: If I wouldn't add so many typos I'm ashamed of, I wouldn't have to edit that often. Seems my wireless keyboard ommits letters at purpose.
