Own a castle/fort

Actually, another place that would fit in perfectly with the theme of fitting characters is winterhold - I really, really want to be a patron to the town and help rebuild it on my mage, and help improve the attitudes of skyrim - or at least winterhold - towards my colleagues. I don't care if I have to donate 10s of thousands of gold - and this is with the hard difficulty vendor mod i'm using - to do it, I just want to help the town rebuild. Please? SOmeone? I'll beg.

Indeed, this sounds like a great idea, and would any capable scripters be available, you might think of expanding the idea later on, like in the post "build your own empire". ( This post )

As Paarthurnax tells you in-game some point, probably not exact those words but I recall something like: "Dragons where born to dominate, it is in our blood and in yours, you can feel it. Can't you?"

So why not, build a fortress first, then expand, create city, make the Jarls angry or get them on edge, by being more successful then they are in their own holds. Challenge them to war or play them out politically?

So many interesting options Bethesda didn't keep in mind, as usual I guess...

(Don’t get me started on what could be done with all the joinable factions after becoming the "guild master". Man how lame are those limitations... -.- Almost as annoying as that rain falling trough those solid ceilings.)

Don't think me unthankful to Bethesda, it's just, they take so much time to create things which are so incomplete that modders even feel obliged to fix things up. xD On the other hand it gives opportunity if you can mod of course. =)

Still functions like mentioned above are a bit of content that I would have taken for granted in a game like this, anyhow you get what I mean I guess =)

Why don't you receive the Fort from one of the local Jarl, after some generic quest, after you'r made thane, and take side either empire or storm...blocking empire forces to Skyrm or stromcloaks....In Skyrm now the whole war thing is a lough...

You'll have sieges and raiding...

As you all know, there is a lot of destroyed and ruined castles in skyrim. They are mostly vacant and infested by bandits.

Now imagine a mod, that would let you buy the property of these castles from a jarl and than have this castle rebuild. Paying for improvements. Than you can get your own guards patroling this area and name them as you like, get hunters to hunt game, and tranders to set up shop. You can get a small market and a bedchamber, forge, your own army. The base property would cost for example 7000g, with each upgrade lets say 5000g.

>>>>

Possibly add a quest which comes after you completed the quests for legion, or stormcloaks. Mayhap the courier comes with a letter which asks you to get ride of enemy soldiers that still lingering around which have qonquered a castle/fort.

Once completed, one of the jarls stewards which sells houses normaly appear in your house in (Homeplace of legions or stormcloaks) with simple text (Or you can voice edit yourself and do it more immersive).

>>>>

This would enable you to get yourself a proper residence that fits the rank of dragonborn hero!

You would start with just the ruin which you would own. First the bandits would still be there, so you would have to clear them. Once the ruin is cleared you can start buying upgrades.

Some upgrade examples:

  • Rebuild the walls
  • Add forge -enables you to buy repair enhance weapons
  • Add market - sell and buy supplies items
  • Add guardhouse - get your own guards to patrol the area
  • Add housing - get NPC's to roam your castle
  • Build a bigger main tower
  • Add stable

>>>>

How I see you can do this simply is:

-Moving the forge guy from riverwood to your castle/fort to your castle/fort. (Move hole family?)

-Same with market and such (But not moving, but copying theim or making new NPC's, eitherway you most make sure they only have the option where you buy, or they might give you quests which are not part of their character as a NPC of YOUR castle.

-Guardhouse is simple I believe, create new NPC's, take one of the existant guard's armour and remake it do your liking (Make new item) then replace the bandits/npc's which was there in first place (Npc's shouldnt walk away then since they use the path the bandits used, which is in that fort/castle)

-Housing should be simple, simply copy the house over.

-There is a guide out there on how to place walls and such, simply use that in the modd. (Bat file which does it automaticly since its console commands?)

(All of this ONLY activates once the quest is complete)

Problems I see with this: Time to copy houses (if possible) , time to remove npc lines/quests they give, replacing walls and all with new ones (Remaking hole castle)

>>>>

I have zero experience with modding, but I suppose making all that is not all that hard. Setting up roaming patterns for guards, and spawning NPC, and placing buildings shouldn't be to hard.

If there is a modder interested in doing this, and has enough experience, I would be super happy!

If you have any more ideas to add, please do.

Im hoping most, if not all, of these mod ideas can be made after the CK comes out.

I just want a big, mannequins filled castle! I have lots of armors and weapons I would love to show off.

I was expecting more from the Solitude house. I was let down after I spent all that gold. So many septims, and so little for it. I still show it off to my friends I just say it cost so much 'cause of the location! Real estate property values are all about location, location, location...LOL!

wow a mod of this scope has a lot of promise. I'd also like to submit that Bleakwind Buff be thrown into the list of potential castles. Its position in the near center of the western area, with stunning views of the central mountains makes a fitting home for the dragonborn.

Clear out all the hagraven stuff, throw in a hearth and a staircase like at Valthiem Towers that would let you shoot at game for miles in any direction.

There is a place that seems to be almost INTENDED for just such a "rebuild". It's large enough to support all the desires of any "Builder" player, is in complete disrepair, but not in utter ruin. It's infested with Bandits, and noone else is using it. AND, if it would matter, could be directly tied in to the storyline as a "reward" for either completing the Rebellion (my preference) or Alduin + Rebellion story arcs....

This mythical magic place is..... well, the very place you nearly lost your head, Helgen.

I just thought of something else.. If I'm correct, Helgen has an already built "Repaired" layout... so the buildings, walls, and towers are already designed in their correct state.. If my bain is working correctly..

The town is Whole when you are first brought in, and that whole sequence is done with the game engine, so everything you could have seen from the wagon would have had to have been Undamaged... Which means the town "exists" somewhere (I think)

Anyway.. just a thought.

I don't know how I missed this thread but I'm planning to do exactly this.

It'll be very similar to my mod for New Vegas where you had to open and maintain your post-apocalyptic casino . That was my first mod so hopefully I can bring some amazing things this time around!

I won't be touching Helgen like some people have suggested in here though, I'm expecting Helgen to be picked up by at least 15 modders in the first night the CK is released. It will get messy I think!

I still haven't found a good location ingame to begin this. I was considering Cracked Tusk Keep, but it's too close to the DB base.

I'm probably going to have it outside of Skyrim. It'll start off as such: A messenger finds you, saying that rumors of the Dragonborn have spread like wildfire. The man who sent for you is asking for your help slaying a dragon that is terrorizing his small keep.

I'm not sure how to have the player able to travel back and forth between his/her town and the rest of Skyrim - probably via carriage. The town is probably going to be based in Hammerfell. You'll have to hire men and women to cut wood, mine stone, build, etc. You'll essentially be the Jarl, and you can expand your town into a massive city.
