Modding Tools

Well, no one has replied to you so I'll toss something in I guess. Keep in mind, I've only just started dabbling in modding myself but I'm getting started. All I've looked at is retexturing at the moment, since I do have SOME experience doing that. After doing some googling I've found that all the games default textures are stored in the .bsa files in the Data folder. More reading revealed that in order to extract the textures from the bsa files I needed to use the FOMM (Fallout Mod Manager) It's available on nexus somewhere. all the textures are .dds files which can be loaded into GIMP or Photoshop with the right plugins. That's about as far as I've gotten though lol so the rest you'll have to figure out on your own for now.

And if I'm correct, you can download the .DDS plugin on the NVidia website (Used for importing the .DDS extension in to programs mentioned like Photoshop etc..)

But yeah, you can also use the Fallout Mod Manager to unpack .BSA files!

the diffuse map would be the texture.dds, the normal map would be texture_n.dds. The texture_m.dds is a mask texture used to mask areas off from the environment map effect: ie the white areas would be parts that receive the shader effect and the black areas would be the ones masked off, ie you don't want to have a metal effect on the cloth parts of the armor, hence the need for a mask texture. some are also named textureenvmask.dds

The actual environment maps are probably in a folder called effects. I assume the gradient folder at a glance... all are square maps, so I guess the shader is using sphere mapping and not cube...

Edit: scratch that last bit... cube maps are in the cube map folder
