Gamma Wave Radio (Fallout 4 Radio Mod)

Hi everyone. So I'm very much a newbie to the Nexus and modding in general. So I had this idea to make a mod for Fallout 4 featuring a radio station. I posted a concept on Reddit and its exploded with response. What I thought would be a small little station with a few characters has now become very ambitious. So far I've written some notes with other Reddit users and we have 10 DJs with very distinct personalities and almost 40 songs with more still to come.

 

I'm still trying to keep it lore friendly. We have hand picked these songs ourselves and think they fit the Fallout world. (you be the judge of that) here is what we have right now.

More songs are still being added to the list. I wasn't expected it would become so big and still scratching my head how big this file size will become. I'm wanting to know if anyone with some modding knowledge would be able to help me here. The original concept was to have a radio in game set on a ship in the seas of the Commenwealth with an interior. The interior would have a radio booth a few rooms for the NPCs. Because it's such diverse set of characters I think it would make sense we would have a large collection of Holotapes with different styles of music.

 

If anyone wants to help I would absolutely appreciate it. I really like the direction this is going but worried whether it can be possible to pull off.

Just letting you know, if any of the songs are still copyrighted,

your mod will be taken down for copyright infringement and

a moderator will give you a formal warning. I have seen

that happen a number of times over the years

Thank you for the heads up :) I have gone out and bought all these songs legally. If does get taken down for any reason I will know why.

Your buying the songs holds absolutely no difference. You purchase the right to listen to the music not do what you want with it. Also not making money from the mod also holds no difference. Unless the copyright holders gave up the right to the copyright and CHOSE to make it public domain there are almost not sound recordings that are copyright free.

I understand what you are saying. I've taken a similar approach to what the mod creator for WRVR has done. I bought all these songs and downloaded them through Archive.org. Any that haven't been avaliable I will remove immediately. So far all these songs have been avaliable to obtain through this method.

With respect to sound recordings fixed before February 15, 1972, any rights or remedies under the common law or statutes of any State shall not be annulled or limited by this title until February 15, 2067. The preemptive provisions of subsection (a) shall apply to any such rights and remedies pertaining to any cause of action arising from undertakings commenced on and after February 15, 2067. Notwithstanding the provisions of section 303, no sound recording fixed before February 15, 1972, shall be subject to copyright under this title before, on, or after February 15, 2067.

There are several U.S. websites claiming that sound recordings made in the United States prior to February 15, 1972, are in the public domain, and there are links to U.S. Copyright Office publications stating: "Sound recordings fixed before February 15, 1972, are not eligible for Federal copyright protection." It is quite true that pre-1972 sound recordings have no federal copyright protection, but they are still well protected under state law. Virtually every sound recording in the USA is copyright protected at least until the year 2067.

 

I am going to leave this here but I will tell you that I think you are mistaken. Feel free to ask a moderator about this directly and see if they think it is ok to upload. I would say hundreds of files have been removed from this site since Fallout 4 came out due to music copyright protection. If Archive.Org is on the up and up then the moderators will ok the mod. I would ask first. Just because a song is in the public domain does not mean a specific sound recording of that song is.

Oh. Well thank you for this. I though it would have been possible to do it this way. I've seen a few radio stations on Bethesda.net follow this method. Still up there now. I honestly thought it was a legal way of doing this.

 

I didn't mean to come off like I knew how to beat the system. I'll look deeper into it but so far I have been able to get the songs listed. Some have been alternate versions but again if this is a problem I will remove it immediately.

I understand. The issue is that some sites do not pay the attention they should. Beth really isn't paying attention.

 

There are still plenty of great songs out there that ARE ok to use and are great for the Fallout games. You just have to look. Posting to find sites that allow the songs that the artist have released them into the public domain would probably help you out.

 

And again, if it is just YOUR game..no one cares. :)
