New to Oblivion!

Hello,

I just purchased Steam's awesome sale of the GOTY Edition Deluxe! I'm fairly new to The Elder Scrolls series, but have been a player of Bethesda's games (mostly Fallout series). I plan on doing a good run of Oblivion before playing Skyrim, and I have a couple questions I was hoping fellow gamers can help me out with:

Are all mods possible for the Steam version of Oblivion?

If so, what are the best HD texture/resolution packs? I wish to have a true gameplay run, just better graphics.

Are there any other mods to help enhance (not alter the game's original way of retrieving spells etc...) my first run of Oblivion?

I've tried doing some research on these questions, but most of the answers seem outdated <\3.

Thanks in advance!

Hi friend,

most of the mods are Steam compatible, if not the modder or the community will tell. Improving the graphics by what? Only high resolution won't do.

better lets begin in the beginning. There a some tools you need for good modding

Links to suggested tools

OBSE: http://obse.silverlock.org/

OBMM: http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2097

BOSS: http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20516

Wrye Bash: http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22368

additional fine is

OBGE: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=30054

For a better control panel: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10763

and better map markers: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=26389

now first my suggest for a new body

As a Body mod I would prefer a HGEC body nude (female), (male) because tons of clothing are based on this mod.

a good sekeleton for most of the clothing mods is http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27945

and a nice skin texture http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20022

or http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=19021

perhaps with this http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22870

get a new hairstyles

races find yourself, if you like. My favourite Elves of Lineage IIcause there are some fine modifications you find if you search them on tesnexus.

then you probably need a animation replacer http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=35551

and now You have a fine person walking through Oblivion.

for better athmosphere I suggest

If you don't like leveling system try oblivion war cry,( english translation) and only the boss monsters will level up.

and a more realistic leveling system

Better sound http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39804

Basic Primary Needs http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37088

bathing mod http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=17190

trade and commerce http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=39255

creature diversivity http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=26634

Economy adjustment: Enhanced Economy

No more psychic guards: Reneers Guard Overhaul

Unique Landscapes are great and nearly a musthave

a general armor and Clothing replacer http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23143 or http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34793 or http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18352

there are more clothing mods than I can tell

my personal choice

in clothing is roadstrokers work http://www.tesnexus.com/modules/members/index.php?id=1281817

slofs mens wear http://www.slofslair.co.uk/index.php?page=modarticle&modarticle/id=6024hiatkkd

female clothing Rhyks work http://www.zodiac.o0o0.jp/rayk/ryk_mod_etc.html

all not to sexy like some things here, but if you like them better, have a look.

for weapons gizmodians work http://www.tesnexus.com/modules/members/index.php?id=341209

for better looking Horses http://www.slofslair.co.uk/index.php?page=modarticle&modarticle/id=5p5k6md28n8

my most liked housemod or have a look to Real estate

companionmods: Vilja , Saerilet

, blade song and a mod I adore but cant really use because its from Japan

You personalize your game by taking your favourite mods. No other one plays the same game.

Oblivion is in my opinion the most and best modded game in the world.

One little hint at last. Do not put in all mods at once. Go step by step and test, test, test. Installing step by step and do regularly backups, is cause, if one of the mods is broken or not installed in the right way, you'll spend hours searching for the mistake. By doing only 3 to 5 search is much easyer. Much more than you'll spend with testing. You find hundreds of guys in O.troubleshooting who suffer with this problems.

Don't forget ;)

have fun

Lol, does he really? Thanks though Harvald!

For the suggested tools; do I have to install all of them? I've used Fallout Mod Manager, so I guess they would work the same? Although my oblivion is on steam, is it a different process? I was hoping for a certain guide on how to install mods on the steam GOTY Deluxe version.

Copy paste is a good way to avoid a lot of typing. I find I answer the same questions over and over. I have a set of canned answers that can easily be customized if needed.

Yes, :P

I do copy and paste and everytime I change a little bit to the advice done by you jamochawoke or bben46 or other modders. And I did it again. It's my third installation of Oblivion safely running, that I suggest, but I forget something to mention everytime, and its only one chance to give a good hint. Therefore don't blame me, in a few years its perfect and I could pin it. :D

Harvald

I think OBSE you must install because of the mods using it. OBMM is a good installing tool, but others prefere Wyrn bash. I use Wyrn bash only for looking for conflicts, in this case its much better than OBMM. BOSS sorting software additional to Wyrn bash is good keeping your load order. OBGE is for newer computers and does increase the graphic quality to maximum. Don't forget the game came out before the first dual core computer was build and the graphic card had only 256K and where are we now.

thx for the mod sugestions

as the OP i also just bought the GOTY deluxe ed from steam

i have tried downloading most of the mods you sugested with nexus mod manager

but besides 1 mod that adds some sound effects i cant seem, to make anything work

im thinking it could be because i dont have OBSE?

i tried downloading it, but i could not use the NMM to do it, so i honestly have no clue where to extract the files to(kinda computer iliterate here LOL)

do i need all of those mods listed at the top to manage the mods? when i read about NMM it sounded like it handled them all

thx for any help :)

Hey, I just came to this thread to introduce to you an epic mod.

Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul. Go google it, 'OOO'.

It is probably the only mod you'll ever need. (because by itself it already contains most of the stuff said above such as better trading and commerce, new creatures, new apparel, new weapons, etc)

Check it out :D

Hi friend,

AlfredTezlaf gave the shortest and best coment I read to this:

OBSE is an extension of Oblivions scripting capabilities, it basically makes more complex mods possible.

OBMM is the FOMM for Oblivion, the mod manager

BOSS is for sorting the load order, a must have when running a lot of mods.

WryeBash has a lot of features, it can fix some save game bugs, it can be used as a mod manager/installer (BAIN), but its most important feature would be the so called bashed patch. The bashed patch basically makes your mods go well together.

Try to download OBSE with internet explorer or Morzilla Firefox cause its essential.

Before I Forget, if you use a custom race from the beginning you need http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1815 and http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3485

Have fun

I do not recommend it unless you played the game several times.
