H00V3RD8M
Hi, was wondering why mod authors delete their files and images from the site, the "File Not Found: The file you requested was not found in our database" error message shown when you view a deleted file entry, is unclear, and does not show a reason why the author removed the file from the site. As the file not found error message typically concerns a file entry that has all associated data deleted from the site, I think that it would be impossible to improve the error message to show the reason for the removal of the file, as that I believe, is also part of the data of the file, permantly removed from the site. I know that that 99.9 percent of the files removed by staff are illegal rips/stolen content, others some for misuse of the file database, most likely intended to stir up trouble. Can somebody give some probable reasons why a mod author would delete their file from the site completely? Thanks. Rational314
They choose to remove it.
JimboUK
They might be fed up with entitled users, abuse from users, they might want to move on and find that removing their files helps with that, there are a multitude of reasons. I know of modders who dread seeing a notification that there's a new comment, I don't get many comments but I'm usually apprehensive when I see a notification. The community is getting worse, I don't like Fallout 4 but I keep an eye on the mods there in case I see something that might make it enjoyable, the levels of entitlement and general stupidity I see in Fallout 4's user base is ridiculous, if and when I get around to making something I'll be keeping it to myself or sharing it privately, I wouldn't want to have to deal with those clowns. Plus there are those who fear the growing prevalence of mod theft, i.e., people reposting their mods elsewhere as if they were their own. I know that it scares me. DrakeTheDragon
Disrespect... is the one thing that will make me decide to do so, if I ever decide to do so for my own mods... This, or generally losing my will to go on.If the harm received from public sharing one day outweighs the benefit, and currently it's about 50/50 more or less counting all together, the use to keep sharing publicly will no longer be present, thus will be the reason for me to do so. For what it's worth, there's a couple communities I feel no interest in whatsoever to share my mods with right now, Skyrim came first and Fallout 4 especially is among the most toxic kinds.Doesn't feel like it's still the right thing to do to me, or that anything good or worthwhile would ever come of it at this point, after all I witnessed in the past so far. But there's also other, more personal reasons for why I won't mod these games. But for example, right now the benefits from sharing my mods with the Oblivion comm are almost down to zero, but at the same time I'm also not getting much of harms way from their end either. However, if some day in the future they "make" me quit, and on the other side nobody makes me stay anymore, well, the choice will be an easy one. Nothing gained now means nothing lost then... well, for me, anyways. Luckily though that time is still to come, and I'm not so easily put off. But that'd be the reason, when it finally happens. Well, you asked for it.
H00V3RD8M
Even if the mods they uploaded contained no objectionable content, banned members still sometimes ask the staff to delete their mods off the site. Sometimes it can be due to disrespect, others - hard times, or they just want to move on and cut loose ends, and removing their mods off the site is one way they do it.
