Question about companions

Apparently you can equip, issue them commands, etc...

I checked in the game's "control" panel, and I don't see anything companions-related. Talking to them doesn't bring the option either. Tried every key on the keyboard, nothing seems to work.

So I guess there's some weird kind of consolified command you have to do to interact with them or something like holding both triggers mouse buttons at once, then talk to them to bring the menu up. But I'm at my wit's end trying to find out how in the world you're supposed to do anything with them, except use them as one-hit meat shields.

I just talk to them and it works out fine... :x

As far as commands go, it's either "Follow" or "Go Home" Then again, I only used a companion for 2minutes to see if the inventory worked then I went back to solo, so there could be more

You click on the "I need you to do something" command. This theoretically allows you to make your companion do whatever you want...open a chest, collect loot, attack an enemy, or even unlock a door (I'm not actually sure about that last one). However, you issue these commands by using your crosshairs, which effectively prevents you from doing just about anything on your own while issuing a command. So, as it's currently set up, it's kind of a useless ability, unless you find it amusing to just have your companion start random fights with people that you're not involved in(I immediately sent Lydia after the Jarl of Whiterun, just to see her quickly slaughtered). As far as equipment goes, they seem to equip whatever the best item you give them is, but not a single one of my companions has ever equipped a bow I gave them. They always use the default Hunter Bow instead.

The best way to utilize a companion is to give them some weapons and armor and let them do their own things.

Hey all.

If you click on your companion up-close you open the dialogue box (crosshair turns to the button required to interact - 'A' or 'E').

If you step backward a bit so your companion is out of 'interact' range but still under the crosshair and press interact, it brings up the move-to/use crosshairs. This way you don't have to talk to them first and can issue commands quicker. They can open doors and chests but so far won't activate levers.

Hope that helps!
