Is curse trying to fight with nexus over modding scene

Took a look at the curse site because of this post, and frankly, it's just another modding site.

Haven't noticed anything of the advertising except the usual premium members/add banners and what some seem to say about them being all about the money, ofcourse they are about the money, everybody is.

But keep in mind, they are giving away prize money, doesn't seem like a bad way of luring new people in and modders get an extra benefit.

For all I care, I'll be using both sites, nexus seems to have more mods overal but curse has it's advantages as well.

Just saying, don't lock the one thing out because you like something else, it's like having vanilla but not tasting chocolate icecream.

Curse have no interest in the community, modders or users, they are there to line their pockets through other peoples work.

This has been the impression I've gotten from Curse.

I find it ironic that you two as Premium members are saying this...

Thats fine. As one one time member of Curse, and a non-premium member of Nexus, they (curse) are only in it to line their pockets. They took over Aionsource and proceeded to mismanage it to the point that the original owner of the site either left or bought back the site (I cant remember which). They are little better than Mangafox who steals translated manga from other people and then charges others to read it.

It's about not knowing s*** that is going on behind the scenes. You could walk into this thread and be like, oh? curse, no problems. You could also walk into Gmod and not know anything about the subject and be like oh? gmod... no problem.

Or you could be a modder and know a little something. Joe no mods is probably not going to be very well clued in.

Hilarious. These people have set a date of 31 January for people to finish and upload their mods. Fallout 3 was released in October and we didn't get the Geck until December. If Skyrim follows a similar pattern then the CK won't even be released until January, the same month they expect us to produce a "quality" mod in. Do these guys have any idea how much time and effort it takes to produce a decent quality mod? A decent quest mod would at the least take six months if you are going to do something with a proper storyline, new dungeons, scripts etc (to say nothing of new items, voice acting, bug testing etc). I predict that their competition deadline will be pushed back and back and back. Inspires a lot of confidence in them doesnt it, lol.

I have to say I don't think curse are a strong competitor to the nexus sites. The nexus sites aren't just about downloads, but the community. The way the modders here interact with each other creates a very productive and self supporting environment. Sites like curse seem to be only able to provide a file share. And with the release of the nexus mod manager (which I am already dangerously in love with) I think the nexus sites have only strengthened their position.

That was my experience during the 5 years I was in hardcore WoW progression guilds (which pretty much mandates Curse since you can't raid w/out addons) and Curse was so user-unfriendly. TESNexus is friendly, easy to use, and full of really nice people so far. Plus they aren't asking for money every third mouse-click.

In the end thenexusforums.com is also about money, and you can not deny that.

How so?

If it was all about money... then the banner at the top of this forum might actually be saying something like Curse

I did not say "ALL" about money, please don't twist my words.

I said in the end they are also about money, with that i mean that they are earning money in some way... may it be through ads (traffic) or the support of premium members.

And i am NOT saying there is anything wrong about that.

@Kiyasumeni

thenexusforums indeed they are bringing modding community together, but they DO earn money... that doesn't have to be a bad thing, because both parts are getting something out of it. And that brings me to my point: Curse and thenexusforums are making money, but curse trying to promote their site to a further extent.

Running a site like the Nexus takes time and money, if some of us decide to support the site by getting a premium membership it's only a question of giving back a little to the Nexus community. You can become a supporter for a very limited fee and a short term premium account is not expensive.

Bear in mind that regular members are afforded by the Nexus the possibility to download numerous mods for free (regardless of the size of these files) and also an unlimited image share section where to upload up to five images a day (again for free). If the Nexus was all about making money regular members wouldn't be able to do all this for free.

I've been a member for years and I got a lot from the Nexus before I decided to upgrade to a premium account.

I'm grateful for all the work that has been done on this site by Dark0ne and the mods and the numerous contributions from fellow modders and users. This is a community with its rules and its etiquette and if sometimes these rules may seem strict they are necessary to keep a friendly environment that respect the right of modders and enforce a zero tolerance on piracy.

You can't really compare the Nexus with Curse. It's simply not the same thing.
