I thought I did something wrong myself, as I have ran into that problem in many games. I explore too much and go to places before I should. (by the way cracked has a hilarious article about skyrim and the ending deals with just that!) I sometimes get frustrated with dungeon puzzles and out comes the old " TCL " cheat and I was sure I had messed up the main quest. So I went back and replayed it, only to find the not that time around and realize my mistake.
