depends how you look at them, not linear and choices have consequences, just as new vegas, witcher, witcher 2, and MANY other games...good thing too actually i think, adds to the game..i hate being forced to play 1 sided...for example, in New vegas i really hate the NCR and side with everybody else against them...

witcher 1 i really enjoy the elves side more than the order, as for neutral, never finished it yet, on hold atm...witcher 2 iv not went back to play since they released 2.0 darkmode and never got past the first town in act 1 ( flotsom ) lol

It's really up to you which side is bad, just based on your own judgements. Both the Empire and the Stormcloaks are out to unite the people, but they have very different ways of doing so, including treatment of people and tradition.

I initially sided with the Stormcloaks after the intro, but turned back to the Empire after I felt that Ulfric was going about liberation in the wrong way.

Imperialism isn't exactly inherently evil, and Ulfric isn't exactly a good guy himself. If anyone's a "bad guy," I'd say it's the Altmeri Dominion, who are really the ones oppressing Skyrim, and to hear it from some NPCs, all of Tamriel. As far as Empire vs. Stormcloaks, it's just about personal preference. Both sides are out to conquer Skyrim, and both can spin their actions as either liberation or preserving the peace.

The elves are the bad guys. The issue is which side would help the elves more.

The empire keeps the elves in power to a certain extend, but the people of skyrim still have some power over the elves. With the stormcloak rebellion the elves could probably just invade instantly after the fact.

Marharth:

Given the fact that the "rebellion" is led by the Dovahkiin, and many of the provinces are still fighting (and essentially Akavir is out to conquer like Thalmor, possibly attacking Thalmor and Skyrim owning both.) such as Hammerfell. In fact, The Thalmor hold very little lands in Tamriel. Plus the fact they think they created the moons.

Depends entirely on how you look at it. I thought Ulfric was a pretty poor example of a liberator. He had a noble cause, but not so noble means.

Also, as Marharth said, as long as the empire remains in control in Skyrim, the Aldmeri Dominion can't directly take control over it, due to the terms in White-Gold Concordat. If the rebels were to take Skyrim, however, the Aldmeri would have nothing to hold them back from simply outright conquering the province.

I was on the stormcloak side untl I discover that their leader is racist towards elves, the imperial legion tried to kill me right in the start of the game though XD still haven´t got that far in the game anyway fr now I´m neutral.
