Hey everyone! I'm new to Oblivion and had a few questions about mods. I've read about a bunch of different mods that supposedly make the game a lot better. So a friend and I are going to start installing some on our games but we had a few questions first:

I'm not sure which mods will work together without causing problems. The mods I was thinking of getting so far are Quarl's Texture Pack 3, Natural Environments, The Unofficial Oblivion Patch, and maybe Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul and a UI mod eventually. Should all these work smoothly together?

I was also thinking of getting OBGEv3 and the LiquidWater mod, but would I need these if I already got Quarl's and natural environments?

Thanks!

I don't believe they are incompatible, however take note that overhauls are notoriously buggy.

Would you need these? No. Would they still look nice? Yes. If you like them you should get them, quarls and natural environments are not replacers for natural waters and obgev3.

Thanks!

No reason those mods shouldn't work together. But as always, study each mod's readme file or manual, and take seriously what it says. I can't begin to tell you the number of complaints on the official mod forum for the game that resolve into a person not having bothered reading the manual for OOO, etc.

I'd also throw in a word for Wrye Bash. It's a utility rather than a mod, but does a hell of a lot, and can show you at a glance if some problems exist. As you add mods, you'll only want to use it more.

I wouldn't be without them.

OBMM dose a lot of work for you. It depends on the mod but a manual install/ uninstall is not recommended for more complex mods. Put the files in the wrong place and CTD or the mod just won't work.

OBSE is essential to run mods that use the OBSE scripts. Without= CTD.

BOSS you can sort the load order of your mods by hand or guesswork but a lot of mods rely on other mods to be loaded first so unless you have the expertise to sort it out yourself then you have to let BOSS sort it out for you. Without you may be lucky but the more mods you have the more certain the game will become unstable and CTD.

what balakirev said. "readme" isnt a suggestion, but an order...

personally, i dont really bother with mods, but some add some sense of completion to the game.

personally ill only play with kvatch rebuilt and stirk, and just an hour ago i installed the bruma mages guild restoration one

in the past i installed one that added Elsweyr and Sutch, but both felt way too "overmodded" for my taste, especially the latter, so i removed them :]

by "overmodded" i mean, they were in my opinion overly decorated and extravagant, and didnt fit with the rest of the game. its a pity, because the city of Sutch was intended, but cut, and i always wanted a more complete continent (like the tamriel rebuilt mod for morrowind)

kvatch and bruma mages guild burning for ever and ever simply annoy me

and the isle of stirk is, by game lore, a part of cyrodiil and imo _should_ have been part of the original game (just like a rebuilding option for kvatch and the bruma mages guild shoulda been.. )
