This is the weirdest issue i find in a game!

My Skyrim is in Ultra settings and with my realively old ATI HD4870X2 card works "on the edge" 20-24 fps at 1920x1200. Now here the weird thing: i ALT-TAB on windows (maybe to open a website or so) then re-ALT-TAB to the game...

OH MY GOSH!!!

THE GAME ALMOST TRIPED HIS FRAMES PER SECONDS!!!

Now i go even at 60 fps or more! (i disabled frame limiter)

And... ops... crap i died. Reload the game... what?? SLOW AGAIN?? Alt-Tab out and in... 60fps. Why this behaviour?

This also happen when i load in a new area, the games slows, I Alt-Tab out and in then go fast again.

The real question is:

Can i keep Skyrim go fast without minimize it to windows every time??

This is EXACTLY the issue I am having - and EVERY forum I have checked ALWAYS has people showing several "fixes" for low FPS. What most of these apparently do not understand is: THE FPS IS FINE when it is running.

E.g. It is just fine, say above 80fps, constantly. You are in riverwood buying some stuff at the shop. THEN you go out - the moment you go out, and the outside world loads, your FPS DROPS to 20 or even 5 fps! And you cannot move, only slowly, because the fps is so low - this is when you have to alt-tab and back - and VOILA the FPS is again at 80fps - running smoothly.

Now, THIS is the problem. Why does this happen, and why only sometimes. For example, you could have gone to that shop in riverwood a 100 times, but this issue only occurrs SOMETIMES.

Randomly, in other areas as well. It almost NEVER occurrs WHILE you are in an area - e.g. WHILE you are outside, you could walk and walk for hours, and your FPS will NEVER DROP.

Then, you enter a cave, and BAM - back to 5fps!

Please if anyone knows why this is - then post here.

As I said all other "fixes" posted by people have NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS PROBLEM.

No matter what I try, lower everything, edit the CFGs, etc. - nothing matters. These FPS drops still happen as above.

Seems a combination of factors is making your resources being eaten and the fallback to Windows id freeing some of it. To the OP, is generally bad idea running applications together with the game, but keeping the browser open while playing is among the worst.

Try running the PCB command on console, this should purge the cell buffer and freed resources, if this alleviate the problem the reason becomes characterizes. quicksaving and reloading may momentarily "solve" the problem also.

Try these alternatives and report if they work, or some of them.
