How to take screenshots in game?

Steam has F12 default, but personally I use Fraps to take screenshots, since Steams F12 makes .jpg format automatically and reduces quality, In Fraps you can choose format. Edited by ScorpionHunter

Not sure in Skyrim but switching screenies to ON in Oblivion was a bit of a hassle

Had to go into both game files ('both files' for me were in default Obliv directory as well as under Microsoft Games directory, different entries there), search through the .ini file, and turn takescreenshot=0 to =1 or something, in both files

real pita, but it worked, with PrintScrn being the ingame screenie button, files saved as .bmps; again, not sure if this is the same with Skyrim as it may default to the Steam F12

If you have Windows 7, use the Print Scr button on your keyboard. Then you find the pictures by going to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim

I didn't know this either until I asked about it on the forums a few days ago.

You can also use the console command ' ` ' (tild..?)..above the 'tab' key...and then type 'tm' (toggle menu) to turn off the HUD for a screen shot. Think that's right, anyway, just wanted to throw that in. You will need to turn your HUD back on again using the same command.

Simply add following to the Skyrim.ini in your documents folder, "c:\..\My Documents\My Games\Skyrim"

bAllowscreenshot=1

Your ini should look like this afterwards ...

[Display]

sD3DDevice="NVIDIA ...."

bAllowscreenshot=1

[Grass]

b30GrassVS=0

[Water]

bReflectLODObjects=1

bReflectLODLand=1

bReflectSky=0

bReflectLODTrees=1

[General]

sLanguage=ENGLISH

Essential is that you put the entry within the [Display] section of the ini then the printscreen key should work and put your screenshots into the skyrim Game folder

Yes, tm toggle the HUD - and the console itself! So when you want to restore it, you can re-type tm - ENTER or press arrow up for the last command and then ENTER.

In addition, you can use "tfc 1", activate free camera so you can move "outside" your character and position you view for a better screenshot. "tfc 0" return to normal "char" view.

And you have to switch to third person view before using it!
