Jadistk
It is very possible that I am doing something wrong, but I had about 10 mods all installed manually and then I watched that video by Gopher on the front page about the benefits of using Nexus Mod Manager. So I manually uninstalled all of my mods and then installed NMM and redownloaded them using that program. However, it is putting most of them in the wrong folders and they are not working because of it. Here is a screenshot of what it's doing. For some mods, it's making their own folders for each one and for some, it even created a new \Data\ folder inside the correct Data folder (so it's installing some to \Data\Data\textures\etc..). I looked in the options but didn't see a way to fix this. The correct skyrim folder is in the options. You can see some folders like the \Data\Data it made with mod textures inside of it, and they armorimprovement and clothesimprovement folders have a \Data\textures\ folder inside of them as well. You can also see some folders related to the "antialiasing and sharpen mod" and it maps Pause to toggle the mod on/off, and it doesn't work either (but did when I manually installed). Thanks for any help. I would like to use the program, but if I have to go through and manually move all the files/folders around then there is no benefit. This is my first Bethesda game that I've tried modding, so hopefully, I'm just doing something wrong and it's an easy fix :D Edited November 18, 2011 by Jadistk
Dark0ne
Version 0.12.6 had a nasty bug in it that did this. Version 0.12.7 is now up, so if you're still getting this problem when installing new mods after updating to 0.12.7, please let us know!
Jadistk
Ok thanks. I will try reinstalling all my mods. I installed all of them with 0.12.6 and when I reopened the program to make this screenshot, it updated to 0.12.7 (which is why the screenshot has it). I will report back! MShoap13
It appears to be following the file structure of the archives when installing them. So, if the file structure isn't quite right it puts them where it thinks they should go. Just a brief observation, so I could be wrong here. Edited November 19, 2011 by MShoap13
Jadistk
Thanks for the help, reinstalling the mods with 0.12.7 fixed the problem and they're all working now except one. The mod "Antialias and sharpen effect" puts the files in the \skyrim\data\d3d9\ folder when it should put the files in the \skyrim\ folder. But that's a simple fix (just moving them manually fixes it for me). Maybe it's the fault of the author? Anyway, thanks again!
Icydead
If you watched the INFORMATION VIDEO about nexus mod manager, you would know, that the mod manager installs everything into data folder. You would also know, that moders have to get used to this and start making their mod archives in proper way, which means that archive should not start with DATA folder. You would also know, that its safer to rearchive any mod you are downloading, so it has proper structure - doesnt start with data folder, untill moders put up proper archives. Also attempting to install sharpen and antialiasing mod with the manager is pretty stupid, it will never work, because manager is set to install mods into data folder, not the base game folder, so Its not the autors fault, its yours. Next time please try to do some digging before you rush into installing every mod and then complain and blame mod manager instead of author and his improper archive structure. Jadistk
Pipe down and try reading the thread next time. It was like the 10 most common mods on the nexus. And it seemed to be a bug with the older version since updating and reinstalling fixed it. I apologize my first post was critical of NMM, but I was confused and irritated that I had spent an hour trying to figure it out. Big thanks to Dark0ne for informing me of the issue and helping to resolve it. Edited November 18, 2011 by Jadistk
Icydead
10 most common mods on nexus, so what ? What do you mean by that ? No bug, watch the video, then you will see it is no bug. But they probably changed some things in update, maybe widened archive folder detection, because moders just keep putting up wrong archive structures and users just cry. So, pipe down. Rikaishi
You would also know, that moders have to get used to this and start making their mod archives in proper way I thought the whole point of this exercise was to make managing mods simple and hassle-free. At the moment the majority of mods don't work with mod-manager. There are a few ways you could fix this. Easiest for the devs would be to add a tutorial for uploaders which explains how to make their mods compatible with the manager. There would still be a few who ignore it but it would help. The best method would be adding a tool to mod-manager which analyses the mod's file structure and places everything in it's proper position or automatically re-archives the after download. This shouldn't be too difficult since the modder's files and folders generally have to match some part of the game's original file structure. Until the dev kit is released anyway. Mods with optional file folders may cause problems with this.[edit]Since the website seems to generate and place a fomod folder if there isn't one in the uploaded file, another solution would be to prompt the up-loader to place the generated folder in it's proper location instead of just tossing it in at the root folder.[/edit] I should also note that the manager often crashes if you download and re-archive a mod, then try to install it without re-starting the mod-manager.
