Domas
Hey all, extremely excited about Skyrim. However I've had a few issues with the graphics in my game. It's 100% vanilla, no modifications whatsoever as of yet. It's difficult to explain so I uploaded a few screenshots for you to look at. Hopefully someone knows of some kind of fix, or what settings I should tween in order to smooth things out. http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q288/Mkgdy/ScreenShot8.jpg http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q288/Mkgdy/ScreenShot4.jpg http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q288/Mkgdy/ScreenShot2.jpg As you can see, outlines can become extremely pixelated. A few things I should probably mention: Game defaulted settings to "High." I also cannot update my graphics driver - apparently my monitor doesn't support it, and if I do update it, full screen resolution leaves about a 2" black border around my desktop. The graphics card I'm using is a Radeon HD 5870. If there's any other information you need to know, let me know! Any help in fixing this would be much appreciated. Vengrath
Sup, The screens you linked are a graphics card related issue. Problem: Graphic card not updated. Solution: Update graphics card. Have you tried updating your graphics card and running the game regardless of the "black-borders" on the side of your monitor? Did that correct the issue? If not, I suggest uninstalling ATI related programs from the control panel. After completely removing any video driver software try a fresh install and see if that corrects the issue. I'm using a Radeon 5870 HD Mobility. -Ven
Domas
Tried updating my graphics card drivers through both Windows Update as well as downloading them through the AMD website. Windows Update gives me an error that the drivers were not installed successfully, and prompts me to go through their generic (useless) troubleshoot options. After installing (two attempts) via the AMD website, I get a bluescreen error, restart windows normally, and have the black borders around the outside of my desktop. Also tried starting up Skyrim with my "updated" drivers, to no avail: Skyrim simply plays inside of the black borders. I know this doesn't necessarily have to do with Skyrim, but could the black borders possibly be due to my monitor, and possible incompatibility? You're probably right about the outdated drivers being the cause of pixelated outlines. I realize this is going a little off topic, so if anyone has a solution to the black borders, could you PM me? Thanks for your help :)
zrkonium
Most monitors have options in which you can adjust the screen position and size. Have you tried playing around with those to get rid of the border? Or checking your resolution to see if perhaps it's not set right?
maboru
Sounds like it's time for a new monitor or do what I do and play through a LED television at 1080p. You can try to adjust your monitor settings as suggested above (I always had to do that with my old CRTs) and try using the 'clean sweep' nVidia driver install option. Takes quite a bit longer to install but seems to remove any old driver artifacts.
Domas
Just went through my monitor's setting. Looks like there's no option to adjust image size >___>. Pretty upsetting, considering it's just over a year old. I'll look into this clean sweep thing and try re-updating my drivers. You mentioned it was from nvidia? Any idea if it works with AMD? maboru
Sorry, it's only included with nVidia. I'm not sure if AMD has an equivalent but if they don't then try http://download.cnet.com/Driver-Sweeper/3000-2094_4-75219868.html (or google it for other download options.) Domas
Gave your link a shot and wiped my graphics drivers clean, reboot, reinstalled fresh drivers, reboot, same results. I suspect it's my monitor. Going to further investigate a fix, probably via Asus support website. Thanks again everyone for your help :)
