highdolo
Skyrim is a great game, although after playing about 40 hours, I choose to wait about a year and touch it again when the nexus community do their modder magic and I can experience the game in its full awesomeness :) , oh man ,when I look back at Oblivion, it will become sucha rich ,immersive game with the mods. The only thing that bothered me is the voice acting, again. In every Betehsda game i played the voice acting is pretty mediocore. I know they got prominent actors in it, but they stated that about 50 people worked on voice acting....well I didn`t hear them :/After you visited Riverwood and Dragon`s reach , besides special characters ,there seems to be about7-12 different voices in common. And they don`t even try to change their tone, character to spererate from each other.I was disappointed and later I just turned subtitles on and clicked the voice away as i read their texts.I didn`t met one person, where I could say the voice acting is so great, it makes the character much richer in its person,no one.And most characters seems to talk sooooo slow. And I mean, they even don`t bother to try to hide thats the same actors. Not at all. For me personally, it breaks the immersion sometimes. I don`t want to compare for example Bioware games with Bethesda, but in terms of Voice acting Bioware is superb. I know that they got much less characters to cover and can concentrate much more on it,and it must be very complex to organize voice acting for an open world game, but somehow it still felt just decent in Skyrim. Even with this setup the Voice Director could have directed the actors to perform a much better result I think. For example this russian like accent woman`s voice, why don`t change the tone for other characters, I am tired of listening to her boring voice acting through out every city in the same way without even try to change the personality :/I don`t even think Bioware have more actors, its just the Voice director does a much better work to spereate them each other and reusing the same actors in more creatiful ways... any thoughts on it ? ^^ Edited November 19, 2011 by highdolo
phantur
I wish they had different lines... Wish the warcries and screaming would be more believable.
InuyashaFE
Really I don't think it's the voice actor's fault, it's that they voice so many characters that the voices feel cheap. It's still improved over Oblivion, and that's good enough for me. I just wish they added more lines to the merchants, it gets annoying to hear the same lines every time you pass by someone. "I don't have any business with you, so get out of my face", just by walking past that NPC. Makes me wanna bash the damn program's head in. highdolo
I wish they had different lines... Wish the warcries and screaming would be more believable. Excactly, its not the actors fault, they choose really good ones who don`t have to prove their acting skills anymore. I don`t want to blame anyone really, but I think it comes down to the vision and professionality of the voice director. Event he best actor cant perform his best when the voice director doesnt "show" him his way.But on the other hand, i think the voices must not sound cheap, becuase they have to voice many characters. I would appriciated if they tried somehow different and play with their voices even knwoing "aha, thats this guy again".Again, it feels like the voice director rushed through the lines and the most actors didnt know well how to act on different characters. Reddimus
All vendors have the same line.. word for word.. ugh. All Thane recognition dialog is the same word for word. "common rabble" Flavor text detracts from the game instead of enhancing it.. My wife says "thank you so much for returning the golden claw" every time I see her. My housecarl doesn't notice we're in a Dwarven dungeon when we go in, clear a bit, come back out.. "oh look, there's Dwarven ruins over there!" A Redguard fisher tries to say something a bit country, but with no accent what so ever.. made me feel like I was in Fallout again because she was so blandly modern. Not trying to go on a hatefest or anything, but just had to unleash some Thu'um. Edited November 19, 2011 by Reddimus
Pushkatu
The buttom line is that you should not be spending so much time listening to all that, you should be out there, exploring the world and enjoying the game. If you let to many of the little things get to you, you'll end up with a big pile of them and you'll miss all the fun this game has to offer. I don't want to bash you in any way, you have the right to post your opinion here just like everyone else, but come on. Stop expecting so much from a game. They've improved it a lot, I'd start enjoying those things if I where you. Even if the game would had 2 times more voice acting than it does(recorded dialogue or what ever it's called), after a while things would have been the same. Read the books, take your time to admire the arhitecture and the epic environmets. I do this and most of the time I barely notice the remarks NPCs make. Cheers and beers,Pushkatu! Yeah, thats why I said only ONE thing bothered me so much that it makes me rage a bit, I mean there are many other issues like Ui, bugs etc...I just cant get it out of my head that there were much more potential in it. I guess I am overall more the audio guy due to my work, so it gets closer to me^^ Overall I love the game .too Edited November 19, 2011 by highdolo
havik7
One thing that I would add is the lack of NPC talk in the game. I mean there are only pre-programmed conversations (which usually lead to quests) or the folks stay silent. I was quite suprised at the Inn parties, where the npcs were "having a good time" quietlely, only the sound of the drum lol. I still remember the Oblivion times; "Any news from the other provinces?..., the fighter's guild discussions about goblins and so on.

It would be much less annoying+realistic+immersive if they just prefer to talk with each other and dont comment on my character evry time^^ But sometimes there are really hilarious comments, like when you become a werewolf and the guards tell you that you smell like a dog xd Edited November 19, 2011 by highdolo

And then everyone complained about it so that's why they didn't do it this time I think. No matter how much they add after a while you will have heard it a 1000 times. Everyone bellyached about the mudcrab dialog but I heard that as much as any other dialog in random conversations.
