ThatKidLuke
@ 4dvz, it does feel akward when this happens in-game. Game companys want to be political correct aswell. You explained, that you are not questioning if homosexuality is good or bad, normal or not. There was a good argument that it has been accepted by the greece and roman culture. The truth is, there where era's and cultureal realms with no public acceptance. I dont hate towards gays or anything but with this trendy subject; people take the moral high ground if you feel uncomfortable encountering said affinity. PrincessOfFlorin
It is a tad odd that they have a ton of racism to the point where they don't allow Khajiits into cities but yet no one raises an eyebrow at gay marriage, despite how taboo it would appear. Not at all. It's a mistake to think that human societies have always had the same set of prejudices that 21st century western society has. Racism has been around forever. Seriously, y'all need to study the early history of Europe before you go making crazy (and flat out wrong) statements like this.
AdamScar
Just a quick note: Saying you aren't homophobic doesn't make you not homophobic. If you find it "disturbing" when males hit on your male char there might be something you try to keep beneath your surface. And even more important: Why sholudn't kids see gay couples/ male marriage??? Kids see their parents married so why not seeing two men together? That IS homophobic. (Please don't get me wrong: I'm not saying YOU are. Just the text is not right in my oppinion. Gay marriage should be as normal and accepted as other marriages. I don't want to offend you. If I do then I'll appologize for it!) (PS: Sorry for bad language. I'm from Germany.) PrincessOfFlorin
Well for example in the place I`m from and been living in for a very long time I`ve met 0 gay people. I haven`t heard about somebody actually being gay. There`s no homosexuality amongst my friends, their families nor my family, so it´s not coded into my world for example. It may be coded into the world in general, but so are many other things that are less natural/normal than others.. and whether there are reasons to put some of them that many people will find offensive into video games, is what I`m talking about. Also, you don't know what goes on in other people's heads. The most manly man in the world might fantasize about having a gay relationship, and either not act on it, or not tell you about it. Same with women. And given that homosexual behavior is pretty common amongst mammals, your claim that it's not natural is, like your claims about history, patently false. Please do some research before you make statements.
Shantih
Regardless, you can always just tell them you're not interested... Just like real life. QFT. It's a game, not real life. RPing a gay character doesn't make you gay like RPing a mass murderer who consorts with demons doesn't make you a real life psycho. I remember all the fuss about Zevran in DAO and seriously that was ridiculous. I don't understand why same sex relationships in games are so threatening to some people. You have to be pretty unsure about your sexuality if you actually think that after playing a game you're going to turn into a homosexual with a fetish for elves. Depending on where you live, how much you go out and (more importantly) how good you look you may sooner or later get hit by dudes in real life. It's a bit uncomfortable when you're straight but at least that gives you an idea of what it's like being a girl who has to tell guys that she's not interested all the time. Also the OP's comment about medieval times doesn't apply to Skyrim since there is nothing that indicates that Skyrim is meant to represent in any way a sexually repressed eurocentric medieval society. Same sex relationships have been considered to be acceptable or unacceptable at different times in various cultures. What it comes down to is personal preferences and that is how it should be. Nobody is forcing your character to have sex with guys, gals or a sheep if you don't want to. Sometimes I really miss playing Arcanum.

Beriallord
Ghogiel, we (the humanity) are not yet in the point were the majority of people really accepts homosexuality nor wants to see it in their computer screens.Except that's the thing. Short of homophobes who respond to this sort of thing with "axe in the face" and other forms of hatred. Most of us who are, you know, functional in reality have come to accept that people of differing interests exist and that these differences don't mean that person is bad. On my playthrough, it was first surprise, then awkward silence, then rejection... Same with how it usually is in real life, regardless your gender or the gender of the person asking. That's kinda what makes the game 'real' that emotional (even if destructive and ignorant) response isn't something that can really be forced on a player. Its not hatred, I just play an evil orc, and many other non-hostile NPCs took an axe to the face, like the courier who kept interrupting me, or some other randoms who said something offensive. But this same evil orc never had a guy hit on him, so I don't know what the OP is talking about. Taking an axe to the face to an NPC that hits on me would be wholly appropriate considering I got bounty on my head in most towns for killing NPCs/guards. WarKirby3333
And besides, in the era Skyrim focuses on.. well, we all know that being gay on public would had been a bad idea back then, as it still is on many countries even these days. So besides being questionable, it`s also unrealistic to have it happen in broad daylight with other people around.I present to you, ancient greece. Your argument is invalid. Besides, fantasy, bethesda can write their own world how they see fit. Why did Bethesda want to include being gay to Skyrim? Or is it unintentional, caused by that those same male npcs hit on you whether your character is male or female? If it was on purpose, wouldn`t it be appropriate to have an option to turn "gaymode" off? the better question is why are you asking this question? if NPCs are hitting on you and tyou aren't interested, then do nothing about it, same as you hopefully would in real life. If you'd attack someone for that, i'd guess you're posting this thread from prison Again before somebody comes here defending gay rights, this post has nothing to do with them and I have nothing against gay people in real life. yes it is, and yes, you clearly do. I`m just thinking that it was totally not necessary to have gayness in this game. You're right. It was also totally not necessary to have black people. Or women. or children. or addictive drugs. Yet bethesda thought it was a good idea to capture the human experience as a whole.
dra6o0n
This thread is derailed and is getting stupid. Because the OP is clearly complaining about real life sexuality when in fact the game doesn't treat sexuality as any importance. When you end up marrying in game, it ends up being bland and limited so all your spouses would do is sit at home and 'sell' goods well talking to your character in a romantic way...That's as far as you can get in sexuality anyhow, since Bethesda don't care.
