kevkiev
Title says it all. Yeah, I know about Timing Is Everything (I don't have Hearthfires and won't be buying it, it so can't use that mod) - my kingdom for a mod that simply delays the start of Dragonborn/ appearance of cultists 'til you're ready. There's one for Dawnguard, but the author appears to have quit playing Skyrim quite a while ago.
Aragingmonk
You can un-check the dlc in the data section of the steam launcher. When ready just check the box and if it is at bottom of load order move it up to just under the update esm.. Keep in mind that the free upgrade for the Skyrim Remaster will only be free for those with all dlc's. $20 for a dlc (hearthfire in your case) or $60 for the remaster (Special Edition) in October and it comes with Hearthfire any ways. Give it some thought.
Fantafaust
That wouldn't maintain the assets during play though. He wants to delay the dlc until later, not completely remove it until he's ready.

IsharaMeradin
Is it that you don't want the entry in your journal? Because you can avoid reading the letter and avoid going to Solstheim after the cultists attack you. You will continue to be attacked by other cultists randomly until you do complete the Dragonborn quest line. But I think that adds to the "immersion" of delaying. Anyway, you may be interested in this thread: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/985959-roleplaying-mod-delay-cultist-encounter/

Give it some thought. Aside from HF's content (which doesn't interest me) and snagging it for other purposes, I'm actually more tempted by mods that require HF like Legacy of the Dragonborn than I am by the upcoming remaster. I don't plan on considering the remaster until I see feedback about it on these forums including whether or not it plays nice with the mods I like (at least my "must haves") and then, if need be, until mod authors have time to update their files for compatibility. "Til then, I'm very much ok with the game as is. Is it that you don't want the entry in your journal? Anyway, you may be interested in this thread: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/985959-roleplaying-mod-delay-cultist-encounter/ Ah, I searched this forum for similar posts but (*head slap*) didn't think to use "Cultist" as a search term. Ideally, I'm interested in something that delays the cultist appearance 'til whenever I feel like it (the Dawnguard delay mod I mentioned delays that DLC until you render the mod inactive - especially with Save Game Script Cleaner to tidy things up after disabling, that really appeals to me). Thanks for the link though - the posted file edits to delay the cultists until specific triggering events look interesting, although it's curious that it worked for one player but not another. Perhaps when I start a new game I'll try a home-made plugin with those edits. Anyways, thanks for everyone's thoughts.
ltknight88
I just did this. After you kill the first group of cultists, do not check their inventory, and do not read the letter. The dead body will stay there as a quest item, but no additional cultists will spawn to attack you. I did the main quest line first, and now I'm at level 65 or so and I have not seen another cultists in the last 30 or so level ups. Hope that helps. Very interesting. So the corpse stays there forever? Critical to remember where you killed 'em I suppose. I'm thinking other things might go wrong too, e.g. you're with Serana and kill the letter-carrying cultist first, then Serana resurrects him so he eventually turns into an ash pile which I'm thinking would be cleaned up (especially as I run a separate mod to clean up ash piles quicker). But, in that case I'm guessing a second group would spawn and you could try all over again. Anyways, interesting stuff, thanks.
ltknight88
I think the letter itself is marked as a quest item. So us, it is permanent. I had completely forgotten about it because i killed the cultists a few months ago in real life, next to the Shrine of Talos where you have to put the Old Kings horn 4 his wife.I think that Quest in your Journal says "search the cultists for clues" or something like that.So it has its own Quest marker if you wanted to go back and search the body it will give you the arrow quest marker.
