Help: Skyrim "data files" unclickable

You get that because you don't have admin persmission on that file.

To get admin permission, you have to right click on the exe file and select "run as administrator."

It is not enough to have your account be an administrator account.

Okay, I was struggling for a long time trying to enable "Data Files" in my version of Skyrim on Windows 7. Just like some other people, though, I made the mistake of making the notepad changes in the SkyrimPrefs.ini. file folder in the Installation folder instead of User\Account Name\Documents\MyGames. Now, it's showing!

However, I've now run into an issue that I hadn't experienced before I went off into this whole mess. Skyrim now refuses to play in the default resolution it was already running in, which was 2048x1152. The main menu loads up, sure, but whenever I load up a working save file or start a new game file, it instantly crashes or something other and exits on its own, bringing me to the desktop. It seems the highest it can go is 1600x900 letterbox, which s most definitely not the resolution the gam defaulted to before.

 

I'm pretty sure that my resolution troubles have been due to my adjustments of the SkyrimPrefs file that was in the Installation folder instead of the MyGames folder, and I've tried to retrace my steps as best as I could, but without luck. I realize that this isn't straight on topic, but it's definite related, if somewhat tangentially. I would very much like to find a way back to that 2048x1152 native resolution that ran with no trouble before my fiddling around.

 

With admittedly little elegance, I'm putting my SkyrimPrefs Notepad text (the text that was in the Installation folder, NOT the MyGames folder) that I was messing around with. I don't think I changed something beyond the "[Launcher]" text, but I may have deleted something afterall. The Launcher-related text is near the bottom. It should also be noted that there may be some mods in this text already, if that's how it would work. (which may/may not include the skse scripter, Climates of Tamriel mod, Enhanced Character Edit mod, Sharpshooters extreme graphics ENB mod, and Bandit eyepatch mod).

Go to 'My Documents' then 'My Games', if it is missing then click 'search' then type: My Games , it should come out then follow the other users answer.

Okay I did this and could access my data folder I had done many things to get this before trying this and ended up messing up my sound I tried to fix my sound by doing some downloads and reinstalling it today after starting to reinstall there was an error none of my files were affected i went to start up skyrim and when i was on the launch screen i checked my data files either it is taking forever to load or something happened because it showed no files were in the folder. but when i went to the actual location all my files were there. SO i decided to go ahead and launch it nothing happened it didnt even try to load it just stopped and it said The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has stopped working. I had been doing some editing with the directx VCRedist and Dotnetfx i installed the newer versions could that have messed up my game in any way?
