NCR or The Legion

Well, this is my interpretation on these 2 Factions.

If your going for power, fame and more civilized group > NCR

If your going for slaughter, disliked, uncivilized group > Legion

If your looking for whose stronger, well thats hard to answer because NCR is in greater numbers than Legion they just arent scattered around the Mojave, I want to stay its much harder to fight Legionaries than any NCR soldier.

I really see no point in these "NCR vs Legion" threads that keep popping up. Their are 3 factions you can join to beat the game and the option to take New Vegas yourself. Just isolating the discussion to those 2 is a terrible idea since all four options are perfectly viable(Well perhaps not Yes Man) and your always going to get people coming in saying that they are both terrible and that one of the other options are better.

And Im one of the those people.

NCR screws you over at the ending. They pin a medal on your chest then tell you to get lost. Then you have the many many leadership, corruption, and criminal inefficiency that will doom it one way or another.

The Legion is by far the most under-rated faction. Yes they are brutal. Are they a bunch of mindlessly violent psychos? No, not even close. The Legion is more organized and more efficient then the NCR by a long shot. They are brutal when they need to be and they need to be because its a brutal wasteland. Now they do have their problems such as slavery(though again brutal when needed) and the fact that Caesar has no one to take the throne in his place. Or at least no one that can properly operate the Legion in that case. They are doomed by they are not anymore doomed then the NCR.

And of course youll find me rooting for Mr. House. And the main reason is the fact that he saved your life. And New Vegas belongs to Mr. House so killing him is definitely the worse moral choice. As I said in another thread killing Mr. House makes you no better then the people who slaughtered the Native Americans and the people currently slaughtering the Palestinians. Its his land(since without his action the oasis that is the Mojave would not exist.) and your killing him and stealing it from him.

1st of all: Excuse my english :whistling:

Well... the reason why the Legion is so extremely underrated is:

The game doesn't show the lands of the almighty, baldy Caesar/Kaiser/whatever.

I assume the mainlands of the Legion to be quiet peaceful. Sure, even there there will be slaves but also the "normal people" of the Legion like traders, farmers, a.s.o.

Most people didn't realize that the Legion presented in FONV is nothing more than a brutal spearhead. It's almost sure that the situation would be somewhat calm... after the slaughtering...

And I admit that baldy Kaiser has some balls to actually visit the front lines but the same thing goes for Kimball.

So all in all: Siding with the Super Bowl kiddies would kill to many people, no matter how peaceful the region would become afterwards.

@NCR-ending: I don't think that way. I imagine my Courier to be a legend among the NCR, even their leadership. It depends on your decisions made and imagination.

For myself my Courier is still in power of the upgraded Securitrons/Yes Man but using them to aid the bear and maybe even elected to watch/rule over New Vegas.

A truly independent Vegas is no option at all - because even with the Mark II robots it would fall to the NCR or Legion after some serious fighting.

Saying that I'm always with the bear. It's closest to a stable nation. Of course there are some flaws but it's the "smallest evil" of them all.

The securitron army could easily hold onto New Vegas if under House's rule. Keep have their own personal rocket artillery and an auto-repair system that allows you to get a unit back up to 100% repair simply by putting the critical systems back online. That and all the other tactical advantages of a remote controlled army that doesnt eat or sleep.

Oliver and Kimbal would snuff you out amongst the hearts of the NCR just like they did with Hanlon. And Its much more likely that all of Mr. House's assets(including robots) would be seized and nationalized. Plus its a very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very bad idea to copy every aspect of one of the nations that caused a nuclear apocalypse which the NCR does flawlessly.

These threads on factions are pointless. It's all perspective and subjective anyways.

I should note to all the Legion lovers that the Legion is not built at all for long term stability, nor is the NCR. The Legion's entire society is built around his leadership: When he dies, there will be little wait before it starts devouring itself. Lanius is in no way capable of effectively leading them the way Caesar did, nor is Vulpes.

Alternatively, the NCR is a bloated, festering mass of bureaucratic bulls*** that has over stretched it's grasp and is a cruel parody of 1800s America.

Hahah that's great. I completely agree with you on all of those points. Especially about the legion, if the courier chooses to side with them they lose access to a lot of stores and sidequests in exchange for very little.

To be honest, before it was released, I was kind of expecting honest hearts to open up some new legion options and vendors etc. But nope, nothing.. Just more anti legion propaganda :P

"couldnt we keep these on the same thread and not recreating it over and over again?"

How would we go about getting this topic pinned, with a question that covers all choices?

What about the courier? The jack of all faces? Couldn't he be the leadership answer to these two factions? (if they didn't shun him after he'd served their purpose, and actually accepted him as a member of their organisation)

Assuming he stays with the faction long enough and gains enough knowledge, or respect, or prestige, or caps or whatever.

1800s? we didnt exist until 1776 and were far from anything close to the NCR beyond the western exampionist behavior. Also keep in mind that a good bulk of the land was not taken, but bought from the French. Infact most Native Americans were already subdued and objectified by the British, French, and Spanish forces that had occupied the majority of two continents the century before.

But not to get too heavily into a history debate here. I assume what you are proposing is that the aggresive expansion of the NCR as a parody to the beurocratical and industrial expansion west by the Union. Which it fits fairly well, both ironicly in direction and railway development and in their eagerness to use force against smaller factions like the BoS.

Exactly. Their eyes are on the horizon, not the ground. As a result, they step on things they shouldn't. But in the case of the Brotherhood, the aggression was already on both sides. They disagreed with the NCR's use of technology, and as a result, their narcissistic beliefs propelled them into action and the Republic reacted the best way it knew.

Hardly. There are instances where, in the NCR's favor, you hear soldiers tell you if you were enlisted you'd likely be halfway to the position of General. But that's about as far as it's taken. Depending on one's own character, their taking of leadership in the NCR might be beneficial, temporarily.

But in the end it won't solve the long term problem in the NCR; Democracy. Edward put it rather well: Tandi's form of hereditary dictatorship worked better for the society at large than democracy ever did. Even if you managed to make the NCR a dictatorship, who's to say it won't revert when the next ruler comes around? Or if the people revolt against your rule? They hold their democracy sacrosanct, as evidenced by the NCR motivational posters and you ruling it with an iron fist might not go over well.

Alternatively, we have Edward's faux-Roman tribe.

Assuming the Legion took Hoover Dam due to your actions, it's likely Caesar/Edward would give you a position of strength within the Legion, sure. Perhaps as another Legatus. Or, if he considers your prowess a threat, he might try to kill you, unlikely as this sounds.

But you would never become the leader of the Legion. He has a line of successors already in place if Boone's words are to be believed. You might lead the Legion into battle, but you will never lead the Legion.
