necKros
Good day forum, today I'm working in some face textures, females only for now. I'm using Xenius' textures as a base for now (some diffuse and the revamped specular map), but a complete overhaul should eventually arrive.I'm not picking sides in the "supermodel vs. real people" debate, but in this one I'm aiming for a pretty look. Here's some early comparisons, vanilla vs. current progress (around 1 hour of work): Vanilla:http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w225/Labelissa/ScreenShot60.jpg Current:http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w225/Labelissa/ScreenShot55.jpg Vanilla:http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w225/Labelissa/ScreenShot57.jpg Current:http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w225/Labelissa/ScreenShot56.jpg Notice that in the "current" pics there are other mods installed, namely Xenius' eyes and Amanda LaPalme's elven normal maps. Opinions/suggestions? Edited November 21, 2011 by necKros

necKros
Sorry, I didn't mention it, but yeah, they're off. For now. Conflicting diffuse and normal maps here. Edited November 21, 2011 by necKros
necKros
Showing some progress. I'm currently Trying to tone down the "grainy" feel without losing detail. Also working out the are around the lips, which has some uncanny shadows. Pictures two and three show the texture applied without any consitution and make up. http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w225/Labelissa/Skyrim/face_6.jpg http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w225/Labelissa/Skyrim/face_4.jpg http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w225/Labelissa/Skyrim/face_5.jpg Edited November 22, 2011 by necKros
Lachdonin
The character texturing is where i always feel Bethesda's work is... laxed. The world and mosters are usually top notch, but the actual characters always seem to have a muted, smudged effect. I actually like these, they manage to keep the general feel of the races, but have an overall more natural look... Considering the world, i feel the grainy look is appropriate, as i don't imagine anyone has exfoliants to properly clense their pores :P

Lachdonin
What i want is for someone to give the Dunmer back their Ashlander scar patterns... Dunmer used to have intricate ritual scar patterns on their forheads, cheeks, brows and chins, something like this... http://community.eastafro.com/_Reasons-behind-scarification-are-beauty-ritualcelebrationcourage/photo/14826287/118652.html?b=

I never played Morrowind, but I've been doing some research in the matter. In fact some dunmer in Morrowind seemed to have scarifications. I haven't found any lore background to support it, though. Lachdonin
Most commonly it was found amongst the Ashlanders, who were tribal groups living in the reaches of Vardenfell, and socially were very similar to many of the tribal and egalitarian groups of central Africa. In fact, the social structure amidst the Ashlanders implied a rank by merit system, which would make them closer to an egalitarian society than tribal... Anyway, given the nature of Ashlander society, i wouldn't be surprised if they partook in ritual scarification, either as a right of passage, to denote kills (as infighting seemed rather frequent) or to mark particularly sucessful hunts. Alas, as is the case with most of these games, a good deal of the social nuances are missed.

I've noticed that scar textures can also have normal maps, so it's perfectly possible to add optional scarification textures under the scar list for the dunmer. I could consider working on them later on :) But what would be the odds of finding an ashlander in Skyrim anyway?
