cdcooley
#1. "Loot aims to make the fewest amounts of changes" ... Not looking for fewest. I'm looking for best possible outcome.#2. "A lot of people have inactive plugins" ... I don't keep plugins/mods around I don't use and if I did adding hold folder isn't that hard. You've heard from an official member of the team and entirely skipped over the part about the fact that there's nothing inherently better about a load order generated from scratch compared with the method LOOT now uses. And you've admitted that your use of mods is not like that of many people. Also, did you even try this before posting here or did you skip that "dance" as well? I've been doing this for years (even mid game) and have never had a problem (zero errors rocks). That part actually is insulting as a response to a member of the LOOT team. LOOT used to do exactly what you're describing by sorting the plugins without any preference given to the existing plugin order but they changed to the current way of doing things specifically to make things better for the majority of people. Yes they have tried it that way and even did extensive testing at the time this new load ordering method was added. That testing showed that the current default behavior actually works better than the method you are describing.
NexusComa
Wow ... The load order will come out better, there will not be any load order errors and the game will run better (despite what was said). Let me take a wild guess here and say, you have not tried it ... Assuming most people have inactive mods is just that, assuming. With how well this works they may want to consider the hold folder technique if just for the sake of building a better load order. I have had every version of LOOT made and never seen it do what you are talking about. If anything was insulting consider it was a mirrored response using his own words. I kind of felt the whole tone of his response was insulting. As if he felt the need to pick apart everything said line by line. Making sure to damage every part of anything said. As if the post to was somehow offensive. I don't consider "a part of the LOOT team" the holy grail of answers as he came in swinging, looking to be rude. Using his "team" status as some kind of justification for that. Very unprofessional and clearly not a team leader. From the start I said back up the two files and give it a test. If it works better then your old load order great, if not revert back ...I'm sure you will find it will work out better and if not nothing lost at all. So I guess this comes down to testing or speculating ... Edit ...This is just a suggestion on how to get a more error free load order that I know works well. I've explained to make backups and hold folder for mods you have that are not being used.If you are unwilling to test this that's completely fine ... however if you are, the steps have been laid out for you. It's easy to do and easy to revert if needed. Thank you for your time, enjoy.[i'm done here] Edited July 30, 2016 by NexusComa
azxcvbnm321
NexusComa, having read and re-read Freso's post, I didn't find it to be rude in any way. What you suggest is something that the LOOT team purposefully decided not to do with the current version of LOOT. They changed the way LOOT sorts orders for specific reasons. Your method encourages people to go back to the old method that the LOOT team found inferior for the majority of players. Freso was merely giving more information to anyone who read your post so that they could be better informed. The fact that he is a member of the LOOT team shows that he has inside knowledge of how LOOT works and knows what he is talking about. I don't know why you feel offended, I am very grateful for Freso's post. Now readers can decide for themselves on what to do, but at least we have all the necessary information we need. Had Freso not posted, we would not have known that LOOT used to do it "your way", but deliberately changed its system because they found it better for the majority of people. Majority doesn't mean everyone so it could be better for you or for some people. That option is yours. But readers needed all the facts to make an informed decision and those facts were supplied by Freso in a non-insulting manner. Remember, just because he disagrees doesn't mean it is an insult. LeddBate
Thanks for the info Freso. And a big thank you to you and the rest of the LOOT team for producing such a wonderful tool for helping us organize our load orders.
NexusComa
If you are looking to change your load order mid game then I would do it the way he suggested ... But, If you are starting a new game and looking for the best possible load order I would do it the way I suggested ... I've done it both ways and never had any problems. However I'm sure there is a mod out there someplace that may error ifchange it's load order spot mid game ... Maxemenos
Hey NexusComa, i tried your method but i use mod organizer and when i run loot with MO, the .txt files arent coming back :/ any help ?
NexusComa
I don't use MO ... Run LOOT by itself. (make sure it's set to the correct Skyrim folder)Also if that is the case MO must be storing them files someplace else.If so after a solo LOOT run you may have to move the new files to where MO stores them.Never used MO have no clue where it stores it's files ... Madzookeeper
MO stores the files in the MO folder under profiles. whatever profile you used will be where the files are. that'd be the ones you want to backup/delete.
