The Problem With Settlements

Also no, it doesn't take inspiration from The Sims, that's just a stupid and inaccurate comparison people make to talk about "How Bethesda ruined Fallout by adding in something I don't like"

I hate to admit that in spite of this childish, petulant and insulting statement meant to negate a view without providing any contrary evidence or making any valid arguments and which is presented solely to belittle and insult a person who holds a position which differs from that of @CinderMuffin; she may be right.

There is absolutely no trace of any SIM in the Fallout 4 Settlement Mechanics.

  • There is no need for the game player to clear and prepare a site for the establishment of a settlement.
  • The game player does not need to collect materials and establish food and water for the health and well being of a settlement.
  • The game player does not need to collect and invest resources to build lodgings and markets for the settlers.
  • The game player is not required to fortify and defend the settlements against any marauders who would steal and plunder,
  • Settlements do not decline and loose viability if the game player does not frequent the settlements.
  • Settlements thrive and survive without any effort or involvement from the game player.

No, there is definitely no trace of any SIM in the settlement mechanic in Fallout 4. Bethesda dreamt this up all on their own and did not take inspiration or ideas from any other SIM whatsoever.

And Todd Howard most emphatically did not admit that there was inspiration taken form other games in this interview with Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb.

PS. The sarcasm tag can take a flying leap.
