I would concur and say that Skyrim is just missing something. I don't have the same sense of immersion I had with the previous titles either. I bought it and played it quite a bit for a few days, and haven't really done much with it since. I would say it's the lack of mods, and I know that is indeed part of it, but even with Morrowind and Oblivion in their vanilla forms, I played them a lot more than this when they first released. I personally think much of it boils down to the fact that I am a person who appreciates little details and experimentation, and Skyrim has removed much of what I used to like experimenting with (attribute allocation, hand-to-hand, spell-making, hostile takeovers of peoples' houses, etc).

It's just as they say: Life is in the little things. There's enough little things missing from Skyrim that as a whole makes it so that I just got bored with it faster. Skyrim certainly tries to be ambitious enough, and it's better than a lot of titles currently on the market, but I also feel the previous two games were really ground-breaking for their time, and I don't get that same sense with Skyrim. It just feels like I've seen much of it before, and the little things I was hoping to see again (but in a new world) are noticeably absent from the game.

I haven't played much since my save got corrupted, its daunting doing the samethings again and finding that stupid golden claw. I guess i wanted the game to be perfect, but the AI is still buggy like its predecessor and even though the world is more detailed it still seems like the same game but everything i liked it is gone (jumping 10ft like a idiot, being able to talk to everyone etc,) i had fun playing Oblivion but Skyrim is just a updated version which is simplified which means more people jump on the bandwagon to play a COD alternative :(

So yeah i don't have fun playing, basically.

I have played the series since Morrowind and played through Oblivion once and ended it mid game several times, so I think I am able to compare... and I can not share your thoughts. Please don't get me wrong, you don't like the game, that means bethesda did something to the game which made it worse for you, that much can be said and certainly is true, and yes, many things were simplified. But stating that skyrim is oblivion in new clothes is exaggerated, I think. I don't wanna start a big discussion, just my 2 points here: simplification is not always bad. I actually like that skills like athletics are gone now, they messed with your level up plans. Gone is ugly, useless clutter, most items have either a decorative aspect or are usable in some way now. Gone is the categorization of weapons into blunt, short, long etc. These are good things to me. Yes, they limit the game, but they also make it feel less edgy and more fluid.

Second, just to name one thing which was improved vastly: gameplay. Combat actually is more now than clicking one of two mouse buttons. Leveling up is much more fun now with the perks. You can smith, something that already made gothic 3 a lot of fun. Spellcasting is much more usable now. The dragon fights are always the same, but still fun and a welcome distraction from whatever one was going to do. And not to forget the shouts, they pepper gameplay a lot IMO.

I'm honestly sorry though that the game did not deliver for you, these were just my thoughts and it sucks that you were probably quite hyped just to play a disappointing game. Hopefully next one will be better for you.

It came out and people played it nonstop. Of curse they stop playing for a while. I'm 60h in and still can't get enough. Other games are played through in tenth of the time so good job Bethesda.

This ^^^

I am starting to feel slight exhaustion cause I have basically played non stop since the day after release. Oblivion and Morrowind combined never held my attention this long with an unmodded TES game.

Definitely getting my moneys worth. When overhaul mods start making their way into Skyrim... *Drool*

Skyrim is a great game but the gutted spell system, lack of classes and little things that really irk me. Like playing the Legion questline and running to some legion members on the road who don't recognize my armor or status and threaten and call me citizen. It totally killed that character for me and I'll never do Legion again. I also feel like I'm being pulled into a jack of all trades character and I just can't stand it. The game is too consolized and many things are halfassed or generic.

I know once some mods come out I'll be able to enjoy the game more.

The problem for me is everything is spread too thin, it has a large number of quest lines but they're far too short. You go from the new guy to top dog in no time at all, there really isn't any sense of achievement. I'd rather have greater depth and fewer quest lines/factions, at least then I'd feel like I'd earned my new position. I also miss the hand to hand and spell-making, it does feel like they've removed stuff just to cut development time. That said I'm 66 hours in and still enjoying it, something that is rare in these days of 5-10 hour single player games. Another positive is the game does offer a solid base for mods, give it a year and the game should be much improved.
