[FIX] LAA "No Longer Works"

Seems Bethesda is closing all those threads, including the one I posted from where I found it. At first I wasn't certain if they actually intended locking out methods like the LAA, but now I'm getting pretty sure they're doing something along those lines and its definitely not right.

And yet the sticky at the top of Beth's forum page says Patch 1.2 won't be released for PC until after the Console patch and the Console Patch isn't do out until sometime next week. However, the STEP mod update says patch 1.65 was released today. What is that, a stealth patch? I'm glad I don't play online. Heck maybe I should unplug my ethernet cable in case they try to hack into my game computer and force the change on me!

Seriously though, the req's posted for this game are -

Recommended Specs (For running Skyrim on "High" settings at 1920x1080 resolution)

* Windows 7/Vista/XP PC (32 or 64 bit)

* Processor: Quad-core Intel or AMD CPU

* 4GB System RAM

* 6GB free HDD space

* DirectX 9 compatible NVIDIA or AMD ATI video card with 1GB of RAM (Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 or higher; ATI Radeon 4890 or higher).

* DirectX compatible sound card

* Internet access for Steam activation

Minimum Specs (For running Skyrim on "Low" settings at 1920x1080 resolution)

* Windows 7/Vista/XP PC (32 or 64 bit)

* Processor: Dual Core 2.0GHz or equivalent processor

* 2GB System RAM

* 6GB free HDD Space

* Direct X 9 compliant video card with 512 MB of RAM

However, when I just checked the box my game came in it only lists the minimum req and doesn't even say "minimum". If they think they have a good reason for limiting everyone to 2gig I wish they'd tell us because that will severely restrict what modders can offer.

Okay, he's a thread from the Beth forums that explains what happened (sort of!) - http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1284360-concerning-the-small-patch-through-steam-today/page__st__100

Guess I'm not the only one who thought they unintentionally added the feature to do so, saw it, and removed it. Then there was one guy who said he had a registry fix to get it to work regardless of the patch (which his how I understood it, correct me if I'm wrong). But it only seemed to work for him. I just don't understand why some publishers/developers do this sort of thing. If there's a third party fix the community found and it does NO HARM at all, why fight it? What are you going to get out of doing that except for angering everyone?

Sometimes I just don't understand :wallbash: lol

How about just use CFF Explorer and re-do the LAA patch rather than reverting to an old exe?

EDIT: I just did exactly that, and the game works great. So, Steam sends out a patch, and the old exe is replaced. This happens in pretty much every update to any game ever.

For anyone who doesn't know, you're going to have to re-patch the game for LAA with every update that is released. That's what happens, and it's normal.

If you keep using your old executables, don't complain when you have a buggy game.

Apparently the new DRM exe patch no longer allows it. Since it didn't happen to me I don't really know but I'll tell you one thing: It will be a looooong time before I go back online to Steam! Thankfully I don't need to because my game is purring along quite nicely, thank you very much.

Alright, I take it back. It's not working for me now, looks like they encrypted the executable (and, yes, Bethesda decided to do this).

Don't worry, though, there will be a work-around that doesn't require an exe patch, it just might take a little bit of time before it's released.

New patch doesn't allow the LAA. Period. Some people have had to redownload the game as well because the patch caused a jerk-off bunch of graphical errors.

Steam had NO business patching the game to force PAYING customers to use their damn platform. Period. Anti-piracy BS. For those of you interested there is a *cough* Fix on Megagames.. *cough* Use it until Bethesda releases -THEIR- patch.

And turn off the AUTO-UPDATE feature for Skyrim on steam as well so they don't *censored* up something else so you can't play the game you paid $60+ for.

Blame Steam all you want, but Bethesda has the final say on things like this. Bethesda decided to do this, not Valve.
