Uhhh what the hell is going on?

I have been playing Skyrim every night since release and today suddenly it wont even run?

It just sits on a Steam window with the message: "Preparing to launch The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim"

UGH I HATE STEAM

[Edit] And when I try to Exit Steam it sits on another window that says "Finishing Steam Cloud sync..."

Are you frickin kidding me? Because of this shoddy software I cant play my game? I bought a retail box version of this game hoping to avoid Steam, and here it is proving exactly why Steam SUCKS

Few of the stupid questions;

Did you make sure you completely exited steam and make sure it's not running under processes?

Did you try to set steam into offline mode?

Have you tried to restart your computer?

Hey there!

The underlined tip seemed to do the trick!

I can once again play my own game LOL, how silly!!!

Thank you so much for your help!

You could avoid steam at first, by going past the launcher to the executable.

A patch was released recently that made it so steam HAD to be running to play the game. Thanks, valve. Thanks for being complete and total dicks. Now I have to deal with steam's memory usage and constant annoyance. Thanks for making my game run at an intolerable framerate, because of having to run steam.

Bethesda, thanks for being complete and total tools. Thanks for making Steam mandatory.

Bought this game and could run it well enough, now i can't. Time to go get a pirated version so i can actually play the f***ing game i bought.

Well sorry for the rant, but they're all douchebags.

Looks like I've got the same problem. I've been playing Skyrim every night for the past week, and tonight when I tried it just sat at the "Preparing to launch..." pop-up window. I've tried a bunch of things like verifying the files, launching directly from the executable and so forth. None of it is working. I'm completely dead in the water.

I too bought the physical copy hoping to avoid this online DRM BS, but even with the disk it seems I can't avoid Steam. Despite owning a legitimate copy of the game, I'm now not able to play it. All forms of this DRM crap need to be outlawed. All it does is hose the legitimate buyers.
