Problem with Nexus Mod Manager

I use a lot of the mods I have found here so I decided to use the nexus mod manager. It seems to work with some mods and not with others. for example: It installed "ArmorImprovement_v2.0" no problem. but when I try to install something that has a .esp for example "Rich_Merchants_-_Less-769" I get an error:

A problem occurred during install:

Could not find file 'C:\Program Files (x86)\The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim\Data\Arrowsmith.esp'. (C:\Program Files (x86)\The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim\Data\Arrowsmith.esp)

The mod was not installed.

Which makes no sense at all, because "Arrowsmith" is not the mod I am trying to install.

I really need a mod manager, and this one has given me SO many problems. I tried the "Skyrim Mod Manager Lite" but that one was worse the the Nexus one.

Any help on this matter would be awesome and greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Do a full uninstall of your mod manager and all your mods. Uninstall the launcher via the conventional method, then find the old folder and delete any remaining files. After that is finished, delete all of your mods (but be careful not to delete the wrong things so make a backup!).

Then go to the Nexus and find your download history, redownload the mod manager, and all of your mods. Also make sure to check any notes in said mods to make sure there isn't a different method of installation that goes with them.

Or you can take the alternative method and simply install your mods through the drag and drop / data files activation method.

It would also be a good idea to go here - http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/tracker/project-3-mod-manager-open-beta/ - and post the problem so they are aware of it and can work on a fix for the next release. It is still in beta after all and the more problems people report now the better the final result will be.

Until the CK gets released and we find out where we stand I'm just installing texture mods manually and holding off on the esp/esms, even though there are already some I'm anxious to try!

The manual method is to simply unzip the mod download in a temporary file and copy and paste the extracted files to your Skyrim data file if the extracted mod file says 'Textures', make sure it's plural, I've noticed that some mods' files just say 'Texture' and that won't work and would probably return that error you get in NMM. If the extracted mod file says 'Data' then copy and paste that into the Skyrim file directly and just say yes to over writing in either case. Be careful with files that say 'Data' because I've noticed some of them don't contain a valid tree structure and that would also return an error in NMM.

Basically the file structure is: Skyrim (directory) which contains the Data file, which in turn contains Textures file, Meshes file, individual esps/esms and a bunch of other files and the idea is to match the files in an extracted mod to the appropriate files in the Skyrim directory. After that if there is an esp/esm then check it in the Data Files section of the loading screen then hit Play.

I'm afraid I may not have explained this well but I hope it helps anyway!

That depends on where you installed it. If you didn't change the auto install path it should be C:/Program Files (x86)/Bethedsa (something or other)/SteamApps/Common/skyrim . Just follow it down until you see the 'skyrm' folder. Yes, it's gotten quite convoluted since Oblivion. If you already have FONV installed the skyrim folder will be below the fallout new vegas folder.

  • 3 years later...

I also was installing nexus mod mangers update and it froze, now when I retry I get setup files are corrupted please obtain a new copy, no matter how many times I download setup I get the same message. I believe where ever nexus mod manger stores its temp files during the setup is some how corrupted. as the mod manger version I have runs fine I just cant update it.
