NAPALM13092
Ulfric is kinda a prick and his town looks like downtown Detroit (trust me I know first hand). So I wouldn't trust the guy to run an entire nation if he cannot manage his own hold. The Stormcloaks cause is just but their leadership is so full of ass backwards racist and knuckle draggers. There is a certain point where you have to put tradition and faith away in the name of common sense and tolerance. I am not a fan of the Empire by any means but the stability it offers beats Ulfric's zealotry. As far as the Skyrim needs the Empire to hold off the Thalmor argument goes. I don't really think that is true as Hammerfell has done quite well against the Thalmor so why wouldn't Skyrim with it's harsh terrain, wild life, and population of war like Nordic peoples. No I think it is the Empire that needs Skyrim. The troops and resources of Skyrim are likely what kept Cyrodiil from being completely destroyed in the Great War. I don't want to see Cyrodiil turned into the Thalmor's latest war prize and it's human population turned into slaves. I side with an Empire I dislike for the sake of my even greater hatred for the Thalmor and the obvious faults of the power hungry Ulfric.
Handofbane
t was a "fair fight" accept that Ulfric used the voice to his advantage. He didnt kill him with the voice though, just brought him to his knees. It was a duel. Not fair. In a duel you get the same tools, and the skill is what decides. Using super power as the voice is as unfair as it gets. If there was a duel, did the king surrender? We don't know, but I doubt it. Honor and pride is something valued highly in Skyrim, at least with the Nords. Really, there is nothing fair about it. It's like bringing a gun to a swordfight. You gain such a huge advantage it is murder, not a duel. The high king went to fight, because he knew he'd win. If he knew he would be shouted down and stabbed, he'd deny. What can you do against a shout? You are forced down to the ground, where one can just quietly go over and stab you.You are a bit wrong there (few days late I know). Talk to the court wizard at Solitude to get the full story of what happened, she was there in person and explains in better detail. The short version is Ulfric challenged Torygg to the duel immediately upon entering the throne room - by Nord tradition if Torygg had refused the duel, it would have given Ulfric just cause to call the Moot to elect a new High King. Torygg had no choice but to accept, whether he believed he might have a chance of winning or not, then Ulfric opened his piehole and shouted down the King before stabbing him to death. It wasn't so much bringing a gun to a swordfight, as bringing a cannon to a knifefight - there was nothing the King could have done to be able to respond to the shout and survive, and Ulfric knew it. If the King had known Ulfric was coming intending to challenge him ahead of time, he could have refused to meet with Ulfric and never been forced into the duel - potentially leaving open the chance to deal with Ulfric in other ways. Also, as mentioned by Elisif, had Ulfric asked Torygg to declare independence from the Empire, he would have likely gone along with it. Ulfric's move was purely a power play to plant his own butt in line for High King, nothing more.
daventry
After replaying, i decided to join the Imperials and it seems better then joining the Storm Cloaks in the end. Its strange to see the Loser Jarls sitting in the Palace, so why not kill them off during the Quests instead of them moping. What also bugs me is the fact that joining the Sides, you would atleast expect a New High King/Queen in the end, yet its all done and over and we all go Home as if nothing happend. billyro
Seriously, you can walk in to the headquarters of each side and have perfect access to an assassination. Why couldn't the game be as simple as walking in and killing the boss, other side wins woohoo.

urielseptim
. Heh, many people will hook with the rebels, because of intro and because that we all know from star wars that rebels are always good guys. Are they?I play TES for a decade now, and from all my knowledge from games and "little books" I would say that his game has no clear and 100% good guys, but if you have to pick "good" side, empire is the way to go. They bring law, justice, prosperity and equality for all of their citizens, and that's a fact. Their ruling line upholds (or it was so until recently) treaty to keep Daedra at bay, and all of their Kings, from Uriel Septim, to others were heroes, sages or wise men. On the other hand Ulfric is not complete villain, his actions are understandable from certain point of view but he also makes some serious mistakes especially in racist backwater views, and in his lust for power. I would say that playing as a rebel has sense only if you play as nord, but not necessary all nords have to side with ulric. With other races .. it's possible to join rebels but it's somehow ... meh. UltraElectroMagnetic
The Aldmeri Dominion considers the Stormcloak rebellion beneficial to them, because it will further weaken the Empire, and deprive it of a province. Should the Stormcloaks win, The Empire will lose all the progress it has gained in its recovery. The Empire wants to fight the Aldmeri Dominion, but it's too weak. The Stormcloaks are racist and don't see that they are, in fact, the ones being manipulated by the Dominion. The Empire has to play along with the Dominion and enforce its will if they don't want to be annihilated. A Skyrim free from the Empire will assure the destruction of the Empire, and Skyrim will fall soon after that, and then Hammerfell. Then it'll be over, and Mer will prove its superiority over Man. If the Empire wins, Skyrim will still be a part of the Empire, and they can continue recovering their strength in secret, and when the time is right, the Empire and Hammerfell can unite and continue the fight against the Dominion. Wait then why are the Thalmor helping the Imperials? They aren't helping the Imperials. The Imperials are forced to help the Thalmor root out Talos worshippers. I think banning a religion temporarily so that the Empire can recover and unleash its vengeance with full strength later on is better than Cyrodiil, Hammerfell, and Skyrim being forever separated. If that happens, Hammerfell will eventually fall, Cyrodiil(and what's left of the empire) will never be able to recover and fight the Thalmor, and Skyrim will be crushed by the elven boot. gofortheko
I really wish something could be done with the blades, because I dont like either faction. Stormcloaks are racists, and the imperials tried to murder you. I regularly kill all killable npcs in both camps. I just wish there was a third faction, like the blades to rise up and join, but then again they are racists against all dragons, so they have their flaws. Still just wish there was some third party that wasnt racist, and didnt have an agenda to murder me.
Allocer2009
Hmm... When it comes to TES, I always make my character unique in their stances about current events. For Skyrim here they are Wolfgar- Nord Warrior, Companion Harbringer (I based this character on a original character I drew). Wolfgar is pretty much in the gray area, much like the companions in Whiterun. At first he did help the Stormcloak rebel to escape from Helgen, but eventually chooses to be nuetral. He neither hates the Imperials, nor does he favor the Ulfric's ambitions. He definetly hates the Thalmor and there was occassions when I battle their soldiers for wearing a Talos amulet. Wolfgar might someday choose a side, but I haven't picked on yet... Faustus- Breton Alchemist and Listener of the Dark Brotherhood (another character I based in my sketches, with some inspiration of a play)- In his backstory, Faustus was a Breton left the Imperial city to improve his experiments with poisons and alchemy, seeing the Empire as a weak and corrupt nation under the Dominion. In Helgen, he did sided with Alvor at first, but eventually he, like Wolfgar, decided to remain nuetral. Faustus eventually joined the Dark brotherhood which suits his ambitions against the Thalmor, but his contracts made him bitter against the Imperial Legion, and even more against the Thalmor. When Faustus became the rightful listener, He and his brotherhood wished to strike the Thalmor and the Imperial Legion back for vengence. Faustus took an opportunity by "joining" Ulfric, but Faustus is not alturistic as he has plans of his own. I created Faustus as the "Ras Al Ghul" of the Dark Brotherhood ^^ Aisha- Redgaurd Battlemage- (yet another character I drew XD ) Aisha's pursuit for magic was frowned upon in her home of Hammerfall. Seeking to study the arts, she left her home province to the Cyrodiil, but with little success. The oppression of the Almedi Dominion and prejudice against Redgaurd was an obstacle for Aisha, eventually, she heard about the college of Winterhold in Skyrim and hoped to travel there to meet the Arch-Mage Savos Aren. But during her travels, she was ambushed by Imperial soldiers along with the Stormcloaks. When the dragon attacked Helgen, she sided with the Imperial soldier, demanding explaination of why she didn't recieve a trail. Now knowing the problems that lay in Skyrim, Aisha travels through the perilous landscapes, racism in the holds, and to add the mix, dragons, to further her dreams to become a powerful Battlemage. Over time, it seems that Aisha will one day help the Imperial legion to stop the Stormcloaks, in which she understood the consequences if Ulfric succeeded.
